Scientific Assistant

The Role
We are seeking a Scientific Assistant to support agricultural research and development activities across laboratory, glasshouse and field environments.

This is a casual ongoing position based in Toowoomba, offering an opportunity to work across a variety of practical scientific and agricultural research activities.

You will work closely with research staff to support laboratory processing, glasshouse activities, field trials, sample collection, and data management.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with laboratory processing and analysis of samples.
• Support glasshouse and field-based research trials.
• Maintain plants and research materials for experimental work.
• Collect, record and manage trial data in accordance with research protocols.
• Conduct field sampling and monitoring activities.
• Operate safely and comply with workplace health and safety requirements.
• Work collaboratively with research staff and stakeholders.
• Contribute to quality assurance processes and scientific integrity standards.

The Candidate 

• Experience assisting with laboratory, agricultural, environmental, or scientific research activities.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• A practical approach to problem-solving and completing tasks.
• The ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Current unrestricted Queensland "C" Class Driver Licence.
• Willingness to undertake regional travel, including occasional overnight stays.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, lifting, bending, and working in field environments.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety requirements.
