C/C++ Embedded Software Engineer - (Active Secret Clearance Required)

Overview
Client is seeking a C/C++ Software Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of secure processing applications and embedded software for mission-critical platforms. This role operates in a classified environment and requires an active Full Secret security clearance.
The engineer will work closely with hardware and software teams to develop embedded solutions, support firmware integration, maintain software quality standards, and contribute to automated build and deployment processes.

Core Responsibilities
• Design, develop, debug, and maintain modern C++ applications and legacy software used across multiple projects.
• Develop low-level C/C++ software for bare-metal and RTOS environments, including FreeRTOS and VxWorks.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate software with microcontrollers, ASICs, FPGA subsystems, and embedded platforms.
• Develop and maintain firmware, device drivers, and hardware abstraction layers for mission-critical systems.
• Maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins and GitLab CI.
• Utilize build systems including CMake and Make, and automate workflows using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Enforce coding standards including MISRA C/C++ and C++ Core Guidelines through reviews and development practices.
• Conduct peer reviews, unit testing using GoogleTest, and maintain comprehensive test suites.
• Develop software verification procedures, test plans, verification matrices, and compliance reporting documentation.
• Create technical documentation including design documents, interface specifications, and maintenance guides.
• Participate in Agile activities including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Education Level
•Bachelors Degree + 9-15 years of experience OR Master's Degree + 7-13 years of experience

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Technologies
• 6+ years of professional C/C++ software (Embedded Systems) development experience
• 1-2 years of experience developing and executing software verification procedures, including creation of test plans, verification matrices, and compliance reporting.
• Active Full Secret security clearance required.
• Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++14, C++17, and C++20) and C.
• Experience developing software for embedded systems, including bare-metal and RTOS environments.
• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills utilizing hardware tools such as JTAG, SWD, and logic analyzers.
• Experience with Git version control.
• Ability to diagnose, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues.

Preferred Skills or Experience
• Bare-metal and low-level driver development for microcontrollers or SoCs.
• Hardware driver development for ASICs, FPGA interfaces, and peripheral devices.
• Embedded C/C++ development experience.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar tools.
• C# development experience for tooling, test harnesses, or GUI applications.
• Familiarity with Xilinx and PolarFire FPGA families.
• Experience with Vivado, Libero, Vitis, or SoftConsole development environments.
• Scripting and automation experience using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• C++ Institute certification, Xilinx certifications, or related security clearance training.

Work Details
• Location: Owego, NY.
• Full-time onsite position in a classified work environment.
• Active Full Secret security clearance is required prior to start due to work location restrictions.
• Work schedule: 1st shift, 10 hour days 4 days a week (Monday - Thursday)
