Position Summary
The Automation Technician supports and advances automated systems throughout the manufacturing facility, handling installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancement of electrical and control systems with an emphasis on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Education & Experience
- Associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field strongly preferred
- Minimum 3 years of experience in automation, instrumentation, or controls within food manufacturing or an industrial setting
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, robotics, servos, sensors, and related electrical/electronic systems
- Lead or support design, programming, and installation of control systems (Allen-Bradley or equivalent platforms)
- Recommend new automation solutions to improve plant efficiency
- Support continuous improvement projects and plant-wide modernization
- Assist with capital projects alongside the Engineering leadership team
- Maintain accurate documentation, including schematics and software logs
- Ensure food safety compliance across all activities
Skills & Competencies
- Proficient in PLC programming and troubleshooting, especially Allen-Bradley
- Working knowledge of HMIs, robotics, VFDs, and servo systems
- Able to read/modify electrical schematics and automation documentation
- Strong ladder logic, control narrative, and systems integration skills
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Excel, Word, and Project
- Strong communicator, detail-oriented, comfortable in a fast-paced production environment
- Must be OSHA tested/certified
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs; frequent standing, walking, twisting; occasional climbing (stairs/ladders), kneeling, and reaching overhead; manual dexterity for grasping and fine manipulation.
Schedule
Typically Monday–Friday, following the shift schedule (seasonal Saturday/12-hour shifts may apply).
- 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
- 3rd Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
(30-minute unpaid lunch)
Compensation & Perks
- Up to $37/hour base
- Shift differential: +$1.00/hr (2nd/3rd shift)
- Attendance bonus: +$0.50/hr
- 1st Pass Quality bonus: +$0.50/hr
