BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The ECS Data Analytics Coordinator will be responsible for driving innovation and automation of reporting tools and processes related to Sustainability and Product Stewardship. The role will be required to enhance Data Acquisition & Cleaning processes, develop Modeling & Analysis for Sustainability initiatives, provide Data Visualization & Communication regarding complex data sets and modeling, leverage third party data and machine learning to provide insight into MSC's Sustainability strategy, improve MSC ESG framework ratings by providing framework methodology analysis tools and support strategic planning to enhance MSC Sustainability branding, utilize analytical aptitude to interpret results and communicate performance on a recurring basis to senior management. The ECS Data Analytics Coordinator will play an important part in accessing data stored in multiple sources by utilizing available business intelligence tools and processes; basic machine learning experience, advanced spreadsheet skills, relational database knowledge, and solid experience with advanced querying languages are required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Data Acquisition & Cleaning: Collecting, cleaning, and structuring data from diverse sources (databases, APIs, web) to make it usable.
- Improves the automation emission data collection process through the implementation of machine learning (i.e., AI) to reduce manual efforts and populates emission data into 3rd Party systems, working to incorporate other data sets like costs to analyze the impact of sustainability on operational costs.
- Replicating for other sustainability and product stewardship data collection processes.
- Compile methodology data for relevant ESG frameworks (e.g., ISS, EcoVadis, MSCi, Glass Lewis, S&P, etc.) including MSC and peer publicly disclosed data and scoring.
- Modeling & Analysis: Developing, testing, and implementing statistical models, algorithms, and machine learning techniques to solve problems or forecast trends.
- Support the development and implementation of machine learning (i.e., AI) with 3rd Party MSC vendors for the application within MSC's functional business processes, validating specific use cases.
- Implements innovative and creative reporting solutions, techniques, and machine learning (i.e., AI) improve the effectiveness of compliance determinations, product classifications, sourcing external supplier data, etc. in preparation for further automation actions (i.e., future phases).
- For relevant ESG frameworks, apply modeling and analysis to simulate predictive improvements in MSC's scoring to achieve improvements to peers and Best-in-Class operational excellence.
- Data Visualization & Communication: Creating reports, charts, and visualizations to communicate technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
- Data Governance: Develop data governance check through machine learning to simulate the activities of a limited assurance audit, identifying inaccuracies in data matches with source data, missing source data, significant variances, etc.
- Business Strategy Integration: Utilizes analytics to support the integration of sustainability, customer solutions, and product stewardship compliance within MSC's business functions, working cross-functionally and communicating analytics reporting and results to leadership teams to demonstrate the success of EC&S related initiatives.
- Being embedded within specific business units for a set duration on a rotational basis for specific sustainability and/or product stewardship compliance initiatives, dedicating up to 50% of their daily activities to a business unit's initiative.
- Publish dashboard results, providing deeper analysis on the progress with supplier in the development of MSC's offering of Environmentally Preferrable Products (EPP) SKUs and Sustainability Solutions; vis-à-vis metrics and reporting to determine the increased revenue from the addition and enhanced marketing efforts of EPP SKUs and Sustainability Solutions.
- Interprets and communicates performance results monthly in an intelligent and clear manner to operational and senior managers by utilizing dashboards and drill-down reporting.
- Assists in the development of key performance metrics and measurement tools for key business initiatives for the Transformation & Risk Management leadership team.
- Identifies and drives automation of repetitive reporting processes to deliver productivity improvements and reduce non-value-added activities.
- Effectively retrieves reporting data from data warehouse and multi-dimensional cubes utilizing T-SQL, Visual Basic for Applications and other advanced querying languages.
- Create self-service tools for end users providing direct access to data needed for routine requests utilizing Alteryx, Tableau, Power BI, Crystal Reports and WEBI.
- Works cross-functionally with internal business functions (e.g. data warehouse, IT Team, finance, etc.) and external vendors to ensure alignment and execution of reporting deliverables and capabilities.
- Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC's vision and unity of purpose.
- Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
What You Need:
- A bachelor's degree in environmental or computer science with applicable reporting experience or equivalent work experience is required.
- A master's degree in data science is preferred.
- Minimum of two years in related business experience is required. More than five years' related experience is preferred.
- Sustainability experience with emphasis in regulatory compliance data, emissions data, or environmentally preferred product data is preferred.
Bonus Points If You Have:
- Excellent presentation skills with ability to summarize trends and communicate results to users are required.
- Data mining and retrieval utilizing T-SQL is required.
- Statistical Analysis: Deep knowledge of statistical techniques, quantitative analysis, and mathematical modeling.
- Advanced MS-Excel and MS-Access, including pivot tables is required.
- Data Visualization Tools:Proficiency with tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Business Objects-Crystal Reports, Lumira, and Design Studio or similar reporting tool is required.
- Machine Learning: Experience in developing machine learning models (classification, regression, clustering) is required.
- AS400 experience is preferred.
- Solid organizational and time management skills are required.
- Data modeling and various scenario building is required.
- Analytical skills and problem-solving ability are required.
- Ability to prioritize multiple requests/projects and manage workload to meet deadlines is required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
- Project management skills and knowledge of MS-Project is preferred.
- Programming in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is preferred.
- Knowledge of financial metrics, ratios, profit & loss statements, balance sheets and accounting guidelines is preferred.
Other Requirements:
- This position may require access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations Information (“ITAR”) and/or Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”)
Compensation starting at $26.78 - $42.04 depending on candidate location and experience.
The salary range represented is based on similar roles in comparable industries, and the cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's relevant experience, education requirements and peer pay equity. The Company reserves the right to modify the range as market conditions change.
