The Opportunity
 
This Sales Manager role has been created as part of a structured succession plan, with the Founder and Director stepping back from day-to-day sales activity and handing over an established client portfolio generating circa £2 million per annum. From day one, the Sales Manager will take ownership of this book of business, with commission paid on inherited revenue, alongside responsibility for developing new opportunities and driving future growth.
 
Operating in a hybrid working model, this role combines relationship-led account management with hands-on commercial leadership. You will work closely with operations to ensure pricing accuracy, margin protection, and smooth delivery across reactive, planned and project-based pump services. This Sales Manager position offers genuine continuity, stability, and long-term progression for someone ready to step into a trusted commercial leadership role.
 
Job Responsibilities
  • Take full ownership of an existing client portfolio valued at approximately £2 million per annum
  • Manage and grow inherited accounts while maintaining service quality, retention and margin
  • Lead the transition of client relationships from the Founder to ensure continuity and trust
  • Deliver the sales strategy aligned to business growth and profitability targets
  • Oversee all quoting, estimating and tender activity across maintenance, reactive and project works
  • Ensure all quotes and tenders meet margin requirements and are turned around within agreed timescales
  • Track and report sales performance including revenue, margin, conversion rates and account growth
  • Work closely with operations to align scope, pricing and delivery capability
  • Identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities within the existing customer base
  • Develop new business opportunities to complement the inherited portfolio
  • Maintain accurate records across CRM and job management systems
  • Support invoicing accuracy and resolve commercial issues affecting payment or cashflow
  • Attend customer meetings and site visits to strengthen relationships and review performance
  • Contribute to leadership discussions with clear commercial insight and forecasting
 
Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience as a Sales Manager within pump services, wastewater, drainage, M&E or building services
  • Strong track record managing and growing existing customer accounts
  • Experience taking over and retaining established client relationships
  • Solid background in estimating, quoting and tendering for service-based engineering work
  • Strong commercial judgement with a clear understanding of margin and risk
  • Confident operating autonomously while collaborating closely with operations and leadership
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid role combining office, home and site-based activity
  • Experience using CRM and job management systems
  • Full UK driving licence
 
Pay and Benefits
  • Salary up to £70,000
