About the role
Davidson Technology Consulting is seeking a Senior Business Analyst – Data Retention Solutions to work as part of our team supporting a major data retention and system decommissioning stream.
This role will suit an experienced technology BA who can work across business, regulatory, architecture, engineering and data stakeholders to define the requirements needed for compliant, secure and auditable data retention solutions.
You will play a key role in translating business and regulatory needs into detailed functional and non-functional requirements for solutions such as data marts, object storage, read-only access models, archival storage and controlled legacy access.
What you’ll be doing
You will lead and support requirements definition across the design and delivery of data retention solutions, including:
- Defining business and functional requirements for data retention, archival and decommissioning outcomes
- Translating regulatory and business requirements into detailed solution requirements and functional specifications
- Working with architecture and engineering teams on structured and unstructured retention solutions
- Supporting requirements for data marts, object storage, read-only access models and archival or cold storage
- Defining requirements for data extraction, transformation, migration, validation and reconciliation
- Documenting requirements for metadata, data context preservation and logical data structures
- Ensuring solutions support controlled access, auditability, legal hold, audit evidence and defensible disposal
- Partnering with stakeholders to define access models aligned to enquiry, compliance and regulatory use cases
- Supporting testing and assurance activities across data completeness, access control and reconciliation
- Ensuring retention solutions are in place before legacy systems are shut down
What success looks like
You will help ensure the organisation can safely decommission legacy systems while retaining the right data in the right form, with the right controls.
Success in this role will come through clear requirements, strong stakeholder alignment, practical solution thinking and confidence working across complex data, compliance and technology environments.
About you
You are likely to be a strong fit if you have:
- 8+ years’ Business Analysis experience, with a strong technology and data solution focus
- Experience working in regulated environments, ideally banking or retail banking
- Demonstrated experience across data migration, data retention or system decommissioning programs
- Experience defining requirements for data platforms, including data warehouses, data marts or cloud storage
- Strong understanding of data architecture, data modelling, ETL/ELT, validation and reconciliation
- Experience defining non-functional requirements across security, access control, audit, logging, performance and scalability
- Confidence working with architecture, engineering, data and compliance teams
- Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery environments
Experience in the following would be highly regarded:
- Experience with Azure data technologies, including storage, analytics platforms or data marts
- Exposure to archival strategies across structured data and object storage
- Experience supporting system decommissioning in complex enterprise environments
- Familiarity with legal hold, audit evidence, retention controls or defensible disposal requirements
