About the role

Due to demand, our client is seeking an additional Planning Lawyer to join their team. Embracing technology and innovation, you will have all the infrastructure, resources and support you need to thrive. 

This is an opportunity to join a highly regarded planning team advising on a broad range of planning law, environment law and local government matters.

Working closely with experienced practitioners, you will gain exposure to complex and high-value projects across the full property lifecycle.
You will act for a diverse client base including developers, landowners, councils and other stakeholders, providing strategic and commercially focused advice in a collaborative team environment.

What you'll be doing
  • Advising on planning and environmental law, including statutory frameworks and planning controls
  • Preparing and reviewing planning permit applications, amendments and supporting documentation
  • Assisting with planning scheme amendments, precinct structure plans and development contributions
  • Drafting and advising on agreements (including section 173 agreements and related instruments)
  • Acting in planning disputes, including merits appeals and enforcement proceedings
  • Appearing (or assisting with appearances) before tribunals and panels such as VCAT and Planning Panels
  • Liaising with clients, consultants, councils and regulatory authorities
  • Supporting due diligence processes for property acquisitions and developments  
What we're looking for
  • *Graduate to 2 years’ PAE in planning, environment or property law
  • *The ideal candidate MUST be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a career in Planning law, as evidenced by  law subjects undertaken at University, or practical work experience in the area. 
  • Strong understanding of (and genuine interest in) planning and development frameworks
  • Experience with planning permits, appeals or local government processes (highly regarded)
  • Excellent drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with clients and stakeholders
  • The ability to work both autonomously and as part of a collaborative team
