In the role of AO5(1) Graphic Designer (Customer & Stakeholder Management) you will create visually competing materials across print, digital, videography and online platforms to support the Region’s stakeholder and community engagement program. Role can be undertaken from Cairns or Townsville offices. It is an office-based position with flexible work arrangements up for negotiation after an initial probation period.
Some of your responsibilities will include
· Develop and deliver high‑quality creative design solutions that align with the North Queensland Region program’s strategic objectives, and inform, inspire and connect with our stakeholders and communities.
· Provide expert visual design and digital communication advice to our Region’s executives and stakeholders, as well as other Departmental teams on occasion, including guidance on branding, asset production, and whole‑of‑government requirements.
· Build strong relationships with internal clients and multidisciplinary teams to understand objectives, translate complex information into clear visual solutions, and ensure all deliverables support the Region’s creative and strategic goals.
· Design, layout and produce a diverse range of communication materials aligned with TMR brand guidelines, including videos, publications, brochures, newsletters, displays, maps, presentations, social media content, and digital/print advertisements.
· Manage workflow and competing priorities using team systems and project management tools to ensure tasks are well tracked, up to date and delivered on time.
· Apply a customer‑centred mindset to ensure creative outputs meet high-quality standards, accessible communication guidelines, deadlines and budget requirements.
· Liaise with external suppliers – such as printers, illustrators, photographers, videographers and animators – to coordinate outsourced production and ensure quality and brand consistency.
· Stay current with emerging trends in visual communication, digital design and creative technologies.
· Provide technical support and guidance, contributing to improving visual communication processes, services and standards within the Communication and Stakeholder Management team.
· Collaborate with Graphic Design teams across the Department to share knowledge and support a coordinated, consistent approach to design.
Requirements of the role
· Proficiency in design, publishing and video editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite – Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premier Pro; Microsoft Office Suite).
· Basic understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), including creating accessible PDFs and Microsoft Word documents.
· Demonstrated ability to develop innovative, contemporary design solutions for complex communication needs.
· Proven experience producing high‑level creative work for large corporate or government organisations.
· Ability to work effectively in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment with strong problem‑solving and organisational skills.
· Ability to manage multiple complex projects independently and adapt to shifting priorities.
· Experience working within corporate branding and style guidelines.
· Exceptional attention to detail, with strong time management and organisational skills.
Desirable requirements
· Minimum of five years’ experience as a visual communicator across the areas of graphic design, digital, visual or creative design.
· Tertiary qualification in Graphic Design or a related field, or equivalent industry experience
· Knowledge of Queensland Government processes and policies
