Apply directJUST HR is recruiting for an Senior HR Generalist to lead the human resources function for a well-established, family-owned distribution business in Vancouver. Supporting approximately 80 employees across a salaried office team and a unionized warehouse and driver workforce, this is a hands-on role with broad ownership across HR.
The company is looking to modernize its HR practices, improve systems, and bring more structure to policies, payroll, employee records, and day-to-day people processes. This is an opportunity for an experienced HR generalist who enjoys building practical solutions and wants to make a visible impact. You will work closely with senior leadership and have the support to strengthen the HR function as the business continues to evolve.
This is a full-time, in-office position, five days per week. The business operates on an early-morning schedule that reflects the needs of a distribution and warehouse environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day HR activities and serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers.
- Manage payroll administration, time tracking, and related processes for salaried and hourly employees.
- Administer employee benefits and the company's RSP program.
- Improve the use of ADP and help move manual payroll and HR processes into more efficient digital workflows.
- Guide supervisors and managers through employee relations matters and the consistent application of progressive discipline.
- Support HR compliance, including requirements under BC's Pay Transparency Act.
- Partner with operations leadership on WorkSafeBC requirements and health and safety practices within the warehouse.
- Support labour relations matters involving one union and collective agreement.
- Review, update, organize, and digitize HR policies, forms, and employee documentation.
- Build consistent onboarding packages and role-specific employee documentation.
- Help develop employee engagement programs and support initiatives such as the company's social committee.
- Evaluate HR and payroll technology and support the transition away from an aging time card system.
- Develop secure, centralized digital employee records and improve HR information management.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen HR processes and introduce practical solutions that support employees, managers, and the business.
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive HR generalist experience.
- Hands-on experience with payroll and benefits administration.
- CPHR designation is preferred.
- Experience supporting a unionized workforce is an asset.
- Experience with ADP or similar payroll and HR systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of BC employment standards, WorkSafeBC requirements, and general HR compliance.
- Comfortable supporting hourly and shift-based employees in a warehouse or operational setting.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to build processes, documentation, and structure.
- Practical and approachable communication style with confidence handling employee relations matters.
- Comfortable working fully in person in an office and warehouse environment.
- Able to work an early-start schedule aligned with the operating needs of the business.
Remuneration
- Salary of $80,000 - $90,000.
- Discretionary annual bonus.
- RSP program with a 2.5% company contribution plus a 2.5% company match, for up to 5% total.
