Description
Our client is a large-scale logistics, repair, and engineering organization that supports many of the nation's leading telecommunications, broadband, and cable providers. The Director, HR Administration will provide strategic and operational leadership for Payroll, Compensation, Benefits, Leave of Absence, HRIS, Wellness, and HR Compliance. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on workforce risk, benefits strategy, regulatory compliance, and HR operations. The role requires a strategic leader with strong operational discipline, experience managing complex vendor relationships, and the ability to support a multi-state workforce across North America. This is an onsite position requiring close collaboration with executive leadership, Finance, Legal, and Operations.
Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and execute enterprise-wide strategies for healthcare benefits, wellness initiatives, and the 401(k) retirement program, balancing cost management, market competitiveness, and employee experience.
  • Establish and oversee enterprise strategy for FMLA, ADA, state leave programs, and leave administration, ensuring compliance, consistency, and effective case management.
  • Partner with executive leadership to align HR administration and total rewards strategies with the client's business objectives, growth initiatives, and risk management priorities.
Operational Leadership
  • Lead teams responsible for Payroll, Compensation Administration, Benefits, Leave of Absence, HRIS, Wellness, and HR Compliance.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across multiple states and jurisdictions.
  • Oversee compensation administration, including job architecture, incentive programs, and compliance with wage and hour regulations.
  • Drive HR data integrity, reporting, workforce analytics, and system optimization through the HRIS platform.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, including ERISA, FLSA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, and other leave-related regulations.
  • Partner with Legal and Risk Management to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate employment-related risks.
  • Lead internal audits, regulatory filings, and compliance initiatives related to payroll, benefits, and retirement programs.
Vendor & Systems Management
  • Oversee strategic relationships with third-party vendors, including payroll providers, benefits brokers, leave administrators, retirement plan administrators, and wellness partners.
  • Lead vendor selection, contract negotiations, performance management, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Serve as executive sponsor for HR technology initiatives, with experience supporting UKG implementations, integrations, enhancements, and process improvements strongly preferred.
Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Collaborate with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling related to payroll, compensation, and employee benefits.
  • Communicate HR programs, policies, and regulatory updates effectively to executive leadership, managers, and employees.
  • Support organizational change initiatives involving HR systems, benefits programs, and compliance requirements.
Required Skills
  • Strategic leadership in HR Administration and Total Rewards
  • Deep expertise in employee benefits, healthcare cost management, and retirement plan administration
  • Comprehensive knowledge of FMLA, ADA, leave administration, and employment law compliance
  • Strong vendor management, contract negotiation, and relationship management skills
  • HRIS leadership experience; UKG experience strongly preferred
  • Financial acumen related to payroll, benefits, budgeting, and cost management
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to leverage emerging technologies, including AI, to improve HR operations and employee experience
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional HR certification required (SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent).
  • 10–15+ years of progressive HR leadership experience with significant responsibility for HR administration, payroll, benefits, compensation, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise-wide healthcare, wellness, and retirement plan strategies.
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-state HR operations and third-party vendor relationships.
  • Experience within a large, geographically dispersed, operationally intensive organization strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting a diverse workforce within logistics, distribution, manufacturing, engineering, or similarly complex operational environments is highly desirable.
