We are seeking an experienced Machine Operator ($35 - $40 per hour) to join a growing civil construction team delivering major road, motorway, drainage, and infrastructure projects across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.
This is a hands-on role suited to an operator who is equally comfortable in the machine and on the ground, supporting crews to deliver high-quality drainage and civil works safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate excavators and associated attachments, including buckets, pipe lifting equipment, augers, and specialist drainage attachments.
- Complete trenching, drainage excavations, and pipe installation works in accordance with project specifications.
- Assist with drainage, wastewater, and general civil construction activities when not operating machinery.
- Conduct daily pre-start inspections and maintain machinery to a high standard.
- Work collaboratively with site supervisors and crews to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.
- Support a range of roading, motorway, and infrastructure construction projects.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 6 years' experience operating excavators within civil construction environments.
- Proven experience in drainage, wastewater, trenching, and pipe installation projects.
- Competent operating machinery up to 50 tonnes.
- Experience working within live road corridors, infrastructure, or major roading projects.
- Strong understanding of safe excavation practices and underground services.
Requirements
- Current WTR (Wheels, Tracks and Rollers) endorsement.
- NZ Class 2 licence essential (Class 4 and 5 highly advantageous).
- Current Site Safe or ConstructSafe certification.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
- Physically fit and willing to assist with labouring duties as required.
