Test Automation Engineer – Testing Enablement
6+ month contract
Downtown Dallas, TX (Hybrid with onsite interview)

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented Test Automation Engineer to support our Testing Enablement function. This individual will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated testing frameworks and test scripts that improve software quality, reliability, and speed to deployment.
The Test Automation Engineer will help establish and implement automation best practices across project teams while adapting enterprise testing standards to each application's specific needs. A key focus will be identifying opportunities to build testability into applications from the beginning of the development lifecycle and helping teams mature toward Test-Driven Development (TDD) and shift-left testing practices.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on automation experience, including the ability to build automation frameworks from scratch, evaluate and implement testing tools, and work closely with development, product, and functional testing teams.

Key Responsibilities
Test Automation & Framework Development

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reusable test automation frameworks.
• Build automation frameworks from the ground up, with a strong focus on reusable functionality, classes, test data, and common input/output criteria.
• Develop and maintain automated test scripts to improve regression coverage and overall software quality.
• Continuously review existing test suites to identify additional regression tests that can be automated.
• Support automation across web, desktop, and mobile applications, including mobile automation using Appium.
• Identify opportunities to improve testability early in the software development lifecycle.

Tools & Technology

• Lead test automation tool evaluation and selection based on individual application requirements.
• Implement and onboard tools such as Playwright, Selenium, TestComplete, JUnit, TestNG, and Appium as appropriate.
• Stay current with emerging testing technologies and recommend tools or approaches that can improve testing efficiency and quality.
• Work within CI/CD pipelines and support the integration of automated testing into the development and deployment process.
• Help teams mature toward Test-Driven Development (TDD) and shift-left testing practices.

Testing Enablement & Governance

• Serve as a central point of contact for automation best practices, standards, and governance established by the Testing Enablement team.
• Adapt enterprise testing standards to the specific needs of individual project teams and applications.
• Partner closely with the Testing Enablement Function Lead to identify opportunities for automated services that can support various phases of testing.
• Ensure automation capabilities and services are available prior to testing cycles whenever possible.
• Provide training and mentorship to application testing teams on automation tools, frameworks, and Testing Enablement best practices.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with developers, product managers/product owners, functional test leads, development leads, and application teams to identify opportunities to improve test automation.
• Provide input during technical and functional requirements gathering, including Business Requirements Document (BRD) discussions.
• Identify automation opportunities for new test cases as requirements are developed.
• Develop a strong understanding of application architecture, project priorities, and business requirements to provide timely recommendations for improvement.
• Balance individual project needs with broader enterprise testing standards and governance.

Defect Management & Reporting

• Ensure defects are properly documented in accordance with the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM).
• Support defect triage and prioritization in partnership with Functional Test Leads.
• Maintain automation testing artifacts and participate in testing metrics evaluation.
• Assess and report on overall project testing health using input from Functional Leads, Development Leads, and application teams.
• Share automation insights, lessons learned, and defect-triage information with the Testing Enablement Lead for enterprise-level reporting.
• Demonstrate measurable improvements in areas such as:
  • Defect identification
  • Test automation coverage
  • Regression testing
  • Performance testing metrics
  • Testing efficiency and reliability

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience designing and implementing test automation frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to build automation frameworks from scratch.
• Strong knowledge of automation architecture, reusable components, classes, and test-data strategies.
• Hands-on experience with automation tools including:
  • Selenium
  • Playwright
  • JUnit
  • TestNG
• Experience with Appium for mobile test automation.
• Experience automating desktop applications.
• Programming and scripting experience with:
  • Java
  • Python
  • TypeScript/JavaScript
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines; experience with GitLab CI is a plus.
• Experience working within both Agile and Waterfall development methodologies.
• Strong understanding of testing best practices, defect management, regression testing, and requirements traceability.
• Ability to quickly understand complex application architectures and identify opportunities for testing and automation improvements.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across development, product, QA, and business teams.

• Ability to work in a hybrid environment, with the number of in-office days determined by the team's schedule.
• Flexibility to work additional hours when necessary to support project or testing activities.
• Ability to balance project-specific priorities with enterprise testing standards and governance.
