The Opportunity As the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for managing a team of engineers and designers while ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality engineering solutions across a portfolio of mining and resources projects. You will play a key role in technical governance, resource planning, team development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of mechanical engineers and designers
- Provide technical oversight, checking and approval of engineering deliverables
- Manage discipline resources across multiple projects
- Support engineering estimates and project planning activities
- Monitor budgets, progress and project performance
- Drive continuous improvement of engineering systems, processes and tools
- Support recruitment and team capability growth
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineering leadership and stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes
- 15+ years of mechanical design experience within the mining, resources or heavy industrial sectors
- Previous experience in a Lead or Senior Mechanical Engineer position
- Strong expertise in bulk materials handling systems
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering project environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong organisational and leadership capabilities
- A proactive approach to mentoring, coaching and team development
- Familiarity with major mining operator standards and procedures will be highly regarded
