About the role
The Payroll Team Leader supports the Group Payroll Manager by leading the day-to-day operation of the payroll function and supervising the Payroll Officers. The role coordinates payroll-cycle activities, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, resolves operational issues and escalations, and ensures agreed deadlines, controls and service standards are met across all Nexus Hospitals, Support Office teams and associated entities.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate fortnightly payroll-cycle, allocate work and monitor completion against the payroll calendar
- Undertake review of payroll inputs, calculations, exceptions, variance reports and pre- and post-payroll checks
- Ensure new starters, employee changes, salary and rate updates, allowances, deductions, leave transactions, terminations and adjustments are processed accurately and on time
- Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, coaching and technical support to Payroll Officers
- Apply approved payroll procedures, controls, Awards, Enterprise Agreements, employment arrangements and legislative requirements in day-to-day processing
- Coordinate routine payroll reconciliations, exception reporting and period-end activities, ensuring issues are investigated and cleared promptly
- Provide clear, timely and accurate operational payroll guidance to employees, hospital leaders and internal stakeholders.
Skills & experience
- Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processes, managing payroll cycles and leading payroll teams in a complex environment
- Strong capability in payroll compliance, including knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and relevant state obligations
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and organisational policies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with payroll systems, particularly Dayforce.
