About the Role

As part of a regional equity research team spanning multiple Asia-Pacific markets, you will be responsible for conducting fundamental research on companies within your designated sector coverage.

The role focuses on bottom-up stock analysis, evaluating businesses through detailed assessment of financial performance, cash flows, competitive positioning, management quality, and industry dynamics. Based in Tokyo, you will work closely with portfolio managers and research colleagues across the region to develop differentiated investment insights and recommendations.

This is a highly visible role that sits close to the investment decision-making process and offers significant exposure to global investment teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed fundamental analysis of companies within assigned sector coverage.
• Build and maintain financial models and valuation frameworks.
• Evaluate company fundamentals, industry trends, competitive positioning, and management quality.
• Generate investment ideas and provide clear buy, hold, or sell recommendations to portfolio managers.
• Monitor developments affecting covered companies and sectors.
• Produce high-quality written research reports and investment presentations.
• Engage with company management teams, industry experts, and market participants.
• Collaborate closely with research analysts and portfolio managers across Asia-Pacific and global offices.
• Contribute to investment discussions and portfolio construction processes.

Requirements

• Strong financial analysis and valuation skills.
• Demonstrated interest and passion for equity investing and capital markets.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to think critically, independently, and make well-reasoned investment judgments.
• Strong attention to detail and intellectual curiosity.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative investment team environment.
• Native-level or highly fluent Japanese language skills.
• Strong business-level English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Prior experience in equity research, investment analysis, asset management, investment banking, consulting, or other relevant analytical disciplines is highly desirable.
• Evidence of a long-standing interest in investing, whether through professional experience, academic background, or personal investment activities.
