Job Overview:
At Ingersoll Rand’s Monroe, Louisiana facility, precision-engineered products play a critical role in equipment customers depend on every day. The site manufactures and services THOMAS air compressor and vacuum pump products within an OEM portfolio serving medical, laboratory, environmental, and industrial markets. In this hands-on manufacturing environment, quality is measured not just by what leaves the line, but by how reliably the product performs for the customer—creating a meaningful opportunity to strengthen processes, systems, and overall plant performance.
We’re seeking a Quality Engineer who is a hands-on individual contributor focused on strengthening quality performance across the Monroe facility by turning quality challenges into sustainable process improvements. Rather than simply reacting to defects, this engineer will look at quality through the customer’s eyes—identifying trends, uncovering root causes, and building the processes, standards, controls, and corrective actions that prevent issues from recurring.
Partnering closely with Engineering, Operations, Production, Customer Service, and Supply Chain, this role will apply proven manufacturing quality practices—including process controls, quality metrics, and customer-focused problem solving—to improve process capability, reduce cost of poor quality, address customer complaints and returns, and strengthen overall product performance.
The ideal candidate brings hands-on manufacturing quality experience, can quickly understand the operation, and is comfortable taking ownership and driving improvements with a high degree of independence. This is an opportunity for a builder—not simply a maintainer: someone energized by improving what exists, creating what is missing, and helping establish stronger, more sustainable quality practices as the operation continues to grow.
Responsibilities:
- Lead investigations of customer complaints, warranty issues, and internal concfomromances using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, and PFMEA, implementing effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Support and continuously improve the site's Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and applicable company quality standards.
- Conduct internal process audits, support customer and certification audits, and drive timely resolution of findings.
- Analyze quality, manufacturing, inspection, and warranty data to identify trends, reduce defects, minimize scrap and rework, and improve operational performance.
- Develop and maintain quality planning and validation documentation, including PPAPs, Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEAs, Control Plans, Measurement System Analyses (MSA), and Process Capability Studies.
- Support process validation and qualification activities, including IQ, OQ, and PQ protocols where applicable.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to develop process controls, improve product quality, and ensure customer requirements are met.
- Provide quality-related training and guidance, promote continuous improvement initiatives, and participate in Kaizen and operational excellence activities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum three (3+) years of experience in manufacturing quality, quality engineering, or a related technical role within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience using root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies to investigate and resolve manufacturing or product quality issues.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 quality management system, including exposure to internal audits, corrective actions, or quality-system compliance activities.
Demonstrated ability to analyze quality data, identify trends or process issues, and communicate findings and recommended actions across manufacturing, engineering, or operations teams.
Core Competencies
- Continuous Improvement Mindset – Looks beyond immediate fixes to identify opportunities for sustainable process, product, and quality improvement.
- Analytical Problem Solving – Uses data, quality metrics, root cause analysis, and sound judgment to identify issues, evaluate trends, and develop effective solutions.
- Customer Focus – Evaluates quality through the customer’s perspective and takes action to improve product performance, reliability, and overall customer satisfaction.
- Ownership & Follow-Through – Takes personal accountability for commitments, respects deadlines, drives actions to completion, and operates effectively without constant direction.
- Collaboration & Influence – Builds productive relationships across Engineering, Operations, Production, Supply Chain, and other functions to resolve issues and advance quality initiatives.
- Quality & Compliance Excellence – Maintains high standards for quality, process discipline, documentation, and compliance while supporting effective quality management systems.
Preferences:
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar quality certification.
- Experience with PPAP, PFMEA, MSA, SPC, and Process Capability Studies.
- Experience supporting ISO 9001 certified manufacturing environments.
- Working knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and metrology systems.
- Experience in machining, assembly, pump manufacturing, or other industrial manufacturing environments.
Travel & Work Arrangements
- This position is fully site-based at the Monroe, Louisiana manufacturing facility.
- Occasional travel may be required to support customer audits, supplier visits, training, or other business needs.
