Position Summary
Our client, a major West Coast electric utility, is seeking an experienced Release Train Engineer (RTE) to support a large-scale SAP S/4HANA ERP implementation programme. This is a hybrid contract role based in Pomona, CA. The RTE will serve as a servant leader and coach across an Agile Release Train (ART), supporting Release 2 (R2) release managers and ensuring the successful delivery of programme increments. The successful candidate will facilitate ART ceremonies, manage risks and dependencies, and provide performance measurement and reporting to drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate ART events and ceremonies including PI Planning, System Demos, Inspect & Adapt workshops, and ART Syncs.
- Support Release 2 release managers with holistic release management, ensuring alignment between teams and business objectives.
- Identify, track, and resolve programme-level impediments and manage cross-team risks and dependencies.
- Measure and report on ART delivery performance, sprint execution, and release readiness; provide insights to drive improvement.
- Champion the use of KPIs, OKRs, and outcome metrics across delivery teams.
- Create and maintain programme timelines, milestones, and cadence of increments and releases.
- Collaborate with product managers and product owners to ensure business needs are reflected in team delivery plans.
- Leverage analytical tools including Python, Power Automate, and Power BI for data mining, visualisation, and strategic insights.
- Develop and maintain dashboards that communicate delivery status and risk clearly to stakeholders.
- Provide input on resourcing needs and assist in feature and capability estimation.
- Coach teams on SAFe and agile best practices; promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- 7+ years of experience in systems development or technology programme delivery.
- 5+ years of experience in agile delivery, ideally in a Scrum Master, Product Owner, or programme leadership capacity.
- Demonstrated experience on large SAP ERP implementation programmes.
- Experience with enterprise agile planning tools such as Digital.ai Agility, Planview, Jira Align, or Apptio Targetprocess.
- Agile, Scrum, SAFe, or project management certifications preferred (e.g. SA, SPC, RTE, CSM, CSP, PMP)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of SAFe; hands-on experience facilitating ART ceremonies and PI Planning.
- Proficiency in data analysis using Python, Power Automate, and Power BI.
- Experience with data mining, dashboard development, and communicating insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
- IT performance management: measurement, reporting, and sprint execution oversight.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex delivery issues.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Experience with agile frameworks including Scrum and Kanban.
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment and operate effectively within a matrixed programme structure.
