Equity Research Analyst (VP)

Introduction

This opportunity sits within a Japan-focused Equity Research team within a global investment research platform. The role is intended for an experienced equity research professional who is ready to take ownership of sector coverage, develop differentiated investment views, and engage directly with institutional clients on market insights and recommendations.

About the Role

The position is at the Vice President to Senior Vice President level and involves covering Japanese listed equities across two broad coverage areas:

• Technology, including electronics, hardware, and related industrial innovation sectors
• Domestic-facing services, spanning transportation, construction, software, and other service-oriented industries with a multi-sector generalist scope

This role requires a strong balance between deep fundamental research and active client engagement, with responsibility for both idea generation and communication of investment views.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-depth equity research on Japanese listed companies, including sector analysis and bottom-up company coverage
• Engage directly with corporate management teams through company visits, meetings, and earnings discussions to build differentiated insights
• Monitor industry developments, financial news, and macro trends to inform investment views
• Publish structured research reports with formal ratings and clear investment recommendations
• Communicate research findings and market perspectives to institutional clients and internal sales teams
• Respond to client inquiries, arrange meetings, and support discussions subject to compliance guidelines
• Participate in overseas marketing trips to present sector views, investment themes, and stock recommendations to clients
• Contribute to strengthening franchise visibility through proactive idea generation and client engagement

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in equity research, investment analysis, or closely related financial markets roles
• Strong demonstrated interest in equity markets and solid commercial awareness
• Proven ability to generate, structure, and communicate investment ideas effectively
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English; additional language skills (e.g., Mandarin Chinese) are an advantage
• Self-driven, proactive, and adaptable mindset with a collaborative working style
• Strong analytical capability and ability to interpret financial statements and industry dynamics
• Experience engaging with institutional clients or equivalent external stakeholders is highly desirable
