2027 UUSA HVAC Maintenance Intern

Chosen candidate will work with mentors on real projects that directly impact UUSA’s enrichment and Net Zero initiative. The Refrigeration Maintenance Intern will support the Refrigeration Maintenance team in maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of commercial/industrial HVAC/R related to HVAC-R process, and comfort cooling equipment. The intern will gain hands-on experience in industrial Refrigeration maintenance practices, preventive and corrective maintenance activities, troubleshooting, work planning, and continuous improvement initiatives while working under the guidance of experienced Refrigeration technicians, engineers, and supervisors. This internship provides practical exposure to a highly regulated nuclear fuel cycle facility and helps develop foundational skills in Refrigeration maintenance, safety, and reliability.

Program Summary

• May 2027 through August 2027 (11 weeks) internship program
• Must be able to work at least 40 hours per week for the duration of the program
• Work location: Eunice, NM

Compensation

• Paid Internship $21/hour paid bi-weekly
• Company sponsored Housing & Utilities

Candidate Requirements / Eligibility

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Associate's or Bachelor degree program in HVAC Technology, Refrigeration Technology or Commercial HVAC systems. or accredited Vocational/Trade school HVAC program.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain site access authorization and applicable security clearances.
• Strong safety mindset and willingness to work in an industrial environment.2 years of college courses completed
• Able to work ALL 11 weeks (May through August) of the internship program
• Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/M-F 9/80 work schedule
• Security Clearance Requirement: CAA Access
• Work Environment: General Office. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.
• Responsible for the protection of confidential and proprietary information received during employment, including keeping information in strict confidence, exercising a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others, not disclosing or divulging either directly or indirectly information to others, and not using the information commercially or for any other purpose other than the performance of their duties for Urenco. Essential Functions

• Support Refrigeration Maintenance personnel in executing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
• Assist in troubleshooting HVAC-R equipment, and it's related components including control systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and instrumentation.
• Participate in maintenance planning, work package development, and documentation reviews.
• Assist with equipment inspections, testing, calibration, and condition monitoring activities.
• Review HVAC-R mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and maintenance procedures.
• Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives through data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Assist in maintaining maintenance records and documentation
• Observe and support plant modifications and project activities as assigned.
• Participate in safety meetings, pre-job briefings, and training activities.
• Learn and apply nuclear safety, environmental, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
• Support development of technical reports, presentations, and recommendations related to maintenance performance and equipment reliability.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
