The team at Hunter Manning are delighted to have been retained by Byrnecut to support them in hiring this exceptional finance leadership role.
The Pitch;
Most finance leadership roles in mining aren't really finance leadership roles. They're reporting functions with a fancy title.
This one is different — and here's why that matters.
Byrnecut is one of the world's most respected underground hard-rock mining contractors. Founded in Perth in 1987, privately owned, cash-generative, and operating across more than 10 countries. They're not chasing the next funding round. They're building for the long term — and the Finance Manager role sits right at the centre of that.
The Role;
You'll lead the Australian finance function: a team of seven, reporting directly into the CFO, spanning management accounting, tax, treasury, compliance and governance across a genuinely complex multi-entity structure (Byrnecut Australia, Jetcrete, Murray Engineering, Quattro Project Engineering, Fuze, Sano — and more).
This isn't a consolidation role. It's an operational finance leadership role where the business actually listens to what finance says.
What you'll spend your time on:
Leading people, not just managing them. You'll have seven direct reports — senior management accountants, management accountants and graduates — and the expectation is that you develop them, not just direct them.
Talking to non-finance people. Byrnecut's operational leaders need someone who can translate financial data into something useful. If you've always worked in a finance team that talks mainly to other finance people, this will stretch you.
Building the controls and governance foundation that a business of this complexity needs. It's not broken — but there's real work to be done.
Who this role will suit:
A finance leader with solid technical foundations who's ready to own something. You've probably led small teams before and know what good looks like. Mining or contracting experience is genuinely useful — not because we need a specific background, but because the environment (tight margins, multi-site, operationally intensive) is specific and it helps if you've lived in something similar.
CA or CPA qualified, is a must,
What you should know before you apply:
This is a Perth Airport office-based role — modern facility, no FIFO requirement. Occasional site visits, but you're not living underground.
