Position Summary
The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the Quality department and developing quality systems that improve product reliability, manufacturing performance, and customer satisfaction. This role oversees quality assurance processes, regulatory compliance, continuous improvement initiatives, and the development of the quality team.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Department Management
- Lead, coach, and develop the Quality team by establishing clear goals, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support employee development through training and mentoring.
- Establish departmental metrics and monitor performance to drive continuous improvement.
- Foster a culture of quality, accountability, collaboration, and customer focus.
- Manage departmental resources, budgets, and priorities.
Quality Systems & Compliance
- Maintain and improve the organization's Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards, customer requirements, and industry regulations.
- Manage quality documentation, procedures, work instructions, and records.
- Coordinate internal and external quality audits and support certification activities.
- Oversee nonconformance reporting, corrective and preventive actions, statistical process control (SPC), inspection programs, measurement systems, and quality metrics.
Customer & Supplier Quality
- Serve as the primary contact for customer quality concerns and supplier quality issues.
- Lead root cause investigations and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
- Review and approve quality reports and documentation related to customer concerns.
- Support new product introduction and production planning through participation in cross-functional project reviews.
- Attend customer meetings as needed and support long-term customer satisfaction.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using quality tools and data analysis.
- Analyze quality and production data to identify trends, reduce defects, and improve manufacturing processes.
- Promote standardized inspection methods and measurement practices across operations.
- Support cross-functional teams in achieving operational excellence.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with workplace safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in safety initiatives, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action planning.
- Ensure employees receive appropriate safety training and follow established procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical field, or equivalent manufacturing experience.
- Five or more years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing Quality Management Systems (QMS) and formal quality documentation.
- Experience with industry quality standards (such as ISO 9001 or comparable standards) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of manufacturing quality systems and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with quality tools such as:
- Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
- Root Cause Analysis
- 8D Corrective Action
- Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Effective leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
- Experience using ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Working knowledge of workplace safety regulations and best practices.
Work Environment
This position is based in both an office and manufacturing environment. Employees will regularly interact with production equipment and manufacturing operations and must be comfortable working in an industrial setting while following all required safety procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout an office and manufacturing facility.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to travel periodically, including occasional overnight travel.
