You will design and build high-performance C++ backend systems powering Zoom's real-time communication platforms including Contact Center and Phone products. Working with distributed telephony infrastructure, you will architect scalability, reliability, and performance for backend services handling millions of concurrent voice sessions globally. Your work will ensure 99.99% uptime and seamless call handling at enterprise scale.
About the Team
We develop backend infrastructure supporting Zoom's real-time voice and contact center services. Our team collaborates closely with product, media, and infrastructure groups to deliver reliable, low-latency communication experiences. We exist to ensure seamless call handling and backend stability at enterprise scale.
Responsibilities
Architecting and optimizing distributed C++ backend modules that manage large-scale real-time voice traffic with 99.99% reliability across global clusters
Developing and maintaining SIP-based backend services for call routing, signaling, and media session management while integrating and tuning open-source telephony engines (FreeSWITCH) for backend scalability and protocol compliance
Building and maintaining backend frameworks for session management, load balancing, and distributed state synchronization using Redis or similar technologies
Troubleshooting complex backend issues such as memory leaks, thread contention, and network latency while supporting production operations and ensuring high availability
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver new backend features and improve system performance across devices and networks
What We're Looking For
Demonstrate 5+ years of professional C/C++ development experience or equivalent practical experience in systems programming
Apply strong understanding of backend architecture, distributed systems, and real-time communication services
Use deep knowledge of VoIP protocols such as SIP, RTP/RTCP, and related telephony technologies in production environments
Demonstrate proficiency in Linux systems programming including IPC, socket programming, and asynchronous I/O
Apply experience using Redis or similar technologies for distributed caching and state management
Communicate effectively in Mandarin to collaborate with distributed engineering teams across regions
Contribute hands-on experience with FreeSWITCH, Asterisk, or similar telephony engines and familiarity with Lua scripting or embedded logic engines for backend service logic
Demonstrate experience with performance tuning, scalability optimization, backend observability tools, and exposure to cloud-native environments and container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)

$124,000.00Maximum:

In addition to the base salary and/or OTE listed Zoom has a Total Direct Compensation philosophy that takes into consideration; base salary, bonus and equity value.

We also have a location based compensation structure; there may be a different range for candidates in this and other locations.
