About the Role
We are seeking an experienced accounts professional to join a small and expanding business. The successful candidate will take responsibility for a broad range of day-to-day accounting and administrative activities, working independently while supporting the wider team.
This position would suit someone with strong bookkeeping experience who is organised, dependable and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
Key Duties
- Maintain accurate accounting records and complete regular bank reconciliations.
- Manage sales and purchase ledgers, including customer and supplier accounts.
- Record incoming and outgoing payments and maintain accurate transaction records.
- Monitor outstanding customer balances and follow up on overdue payments.
- Process payroll and arrange associated payments.
- Prepare regular payment schedules and payment runs.
- Review expenditure and produce relevant analysis and reports.
- Investigate and resolve differences between supplier statements and internal records.
- Record and reconcile company credit card transactions, ensuring eligible VAT is correctly accounted for.
- Prepare month-end accruals and other accounting adjustments.
- Complete relevant Revenue and VAT submissions, including VAT, VIES and Intrastat requirements.
- Process employee expense claims and ensure supporting documentation is maintained.
- Reconcile control accounts and investigate and clear outstanding balances.
- Prepare and submit applicable payroll and Revenue returns.
- Process electronic fund transfers and other authorised payments.
- Assist external auditors by preparing financial information and supporting documentation for year-end accounts.
- Provide general administrative and office support when required.
Experience & Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- At least 5 years' experience in bookkeeping or a similar accounts role.
- An Accounting Technician qualification or equivalent accounting experience.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with computerised payroll systems.
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- The ability to manage competing deadlines and work effectively without constant supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A professional and approachable manner when dealing with customers, suppliers and colleagues.
- The ability to follow procedures and instructions while also using initiative where appropriate.
- Good organisational skills and a reliable, punctual approach to work.
