Maintenance Fitter

Location: North-West Galway
Hours: Full-time, four shifts Monday to Friday plus Saturday

An established timber manufacturing company is seeking a qualified Maintenance Fitter to join its maintenance team in North-West Galway.

This hands-on role will suit a practical maintenance professional who enjoys fault-finding, machining and repair work across large industrial processing equipment.

The role

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and respond to mechanical breakdowns.
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs to minimise production downtime.
  • Replace bearings, sprockets, chains and drive components.
  • Use workshop machinery, including lathes and milling machines, to complete in-house repairs.
  • Carry out welding, fabrication and oxy-acetylene cutting.
  • Support machinery installation, refurbishment and maintenance during planned shutdowns.
  • Follow safety procedures, including permits for hot work, working at height and equipment isolation.

What you will need

  • A recognised Fitter/Turner qualification.
  • At least two years’ experience in a similar industrial maintenance environment.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing large processing machinery.
  • Competence in Stick, MIG and TIG welding.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding skills and a practical approach to repairs.
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of equipment maintenance.
  • Basic electrical and plumbing knowledge would be an advantage.

Working arrangements

The working week consists of four shifts between Monday and Friday, plus a Saturday shift. Availability is also required during two extended plant maintenance shutdowns each year.
