About the Role
Our client is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join the Managed Services team. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance and support of enterprise IT infrastructure across Windows and Unix/Linux environments, with exposure to middleware and enterprise applications.

This role is well suited to a hands-on Systems Engineer with strong system administration, troubleshooting and infrastructure support experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain and troubleshoot Windows Server and Unix/Linux systems
  
  
• Manage Active Directory (AD), including user accounts, Group Policy (GPO), OU structure and access controls
  
  
• Configure and maintain DNS, DHCP and file/print services
  
  
• Manage and monitor backup and recovery solutions such as Veeam, NetBackup and Windows Backup
  
  
• Perform system restoration and disaster recovery testing
  
  
• Install, configure and support middleware platforms such as WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat and IIS
  
  
• Perform OS patching, upgrades and security hardening across Windows and Unix/Linux environments
  
  
• Monitor system performance, capacity and availability
  
  
• Investigate and resolve system incidents, vulnerabilities and performance issues
  
  
• Support application deployment and environment setup
  
  
• Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell, Bash and Shell scripting
  
  
• Manage virtualisation platforms including VMware and Hyper-V
  
  
• Support cloud environments where applicable
  
  
• Maintain system documentation, SOPs and configuration records
  
  
• Work closely with network, database, application and security teams
  
  
• Participate in on-call support, incident response and problem management
  
  

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline
  
  
• 3–7 years of experience in systems engineering or system administration
  
  
• Hands-on experience with:
  
  
  • Windows Server – Active Directory, DNS, GPO and backup solutions
    
    
  • Unix/Linux – RHEL, CentOS, AIX and/or Solaris
    
    
• Experience managing enterprise backup and recovery processes
  
  
• Exposure to middleware platforms in production environments
  
  
• Working knowledge of:
  
  
  • IBM WebSphere
    
    
  • Oracle WebLogic
    
    
  • Apache Tomcat
    
    
  • JBoss
    
    
  • IIS
    
    
• Scripting experience with PowerShell, Bash and Shell scripting
  
  
• Knowledge of VMware / Hyper-V and system monitoring tools
  
  
• Basic networking knowledge, including TCP/IP and firewall concepts
  
  
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  
  
• Able to work independently as well as collaboratively
  
  
• Good communication and documentation skills
  
  
• Able to prioritise multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure
  
  

Certifications The following certifications would be advantageous:

• Microsoft Certified – Windows Server / Azure
  
  
• Linux certifications such as RHCSA / RHCE
  
  
• Middleware certifications
