Staff Backend Engineer (Hybrid, HCM City)

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will provide technical leadership across backend and platform engineering, driving scalable architecture, developer productivity, and engineering best practices. This is a hands-on role focused on building robust platform capabilities while influencing technical direction across multiple engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable backend platforms, internal frameworks, SDKs, and reusable components.
  • Drive engineering standards across microservices, API design, observability, performance, and reliability.
  • Improve developer experience through automation, self-service tooling, and CI/CD enhancements.
  • Lead architectural decisions, evaluate new technologies, and contribute to the engineering roadmap.
  • Partner with DevOps to optimise cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and platform efficiency.
  • Mentor senior engineers and drive engineering best practices across the organisation.
  • Provide technical leadership on Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Kafka/RabbitMQ, and event-driven architectures.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of backend engineering experience, including experience in a Principal, Staff, Lead, or Senior technical leadership role.
  • Strong experience building and scaling distributed systems in production environments.
  • Hands-on expertise with Java, Spring Boot, microservices, Kubernetes, Kafka/RabbitMQ, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience with platform engineering, developer tooling, CI/CD, observability, and software architecture.
  • Background in fintech, digital banking, payments, or other high-scale technology environments is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills with professional working proficiency in English.
