Overview
Our Advanced Development Programs team is seeking an experienced Aeronautical Engineer to support the design and integration of next-generation aerospace systems. This role will focus on airframe structural design, multidisciplinary integration, and design synthesis while working closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support airframe design and structural integration across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Perform design synthesis across aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, thermodynamics, electronics, controls, and actuation.
- Conduct multidisciplinary system trade studies to optimize performance, weight, cost, manufacturability, and overall system effectiveness.
- Design and analyze metallic and composite airframe structures.
- Develop and maintain 3D engineering designs using CATIA V5 and/or 3DX.
- Support fabrication, assembly, manufacturing, quality, MRB, and supply-chain activities.
- Coordinate with suppliers and production organizations to resolve technical and manufacturing issues.
- Support engineering reviews and communicate technical recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare technical presentations, engineering documentation, and other materials for customers and program leadership.
- Perform or support hand stress analysis and structural assessments.
- Apply GD&T principles to engineering designs and drawings.
- Mentor early-career engineers and provide technical guidance across multidisciplinary teams.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in airframe structural design and analysis.
- 10+ years of experience with metallic and/or composite aerospace structures.
- 10+ years of experience with CATIA V5 and/or 3DX.
- Demonstrated experience working on complex aerospace or aircraft development programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
- Experience working with Lockheed Martin Business Areas (LM Client).
- Experience interacting with suppliers, external customers, and production operations.
- MRB coordination and support experience.
- Experience performing hand stress analysis.
- Experience with advanced or highly specialized aerospace systems, including hypersonic boost-glide systems.
- Strong technical communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a senior aerospace structures engineer with 10+ years of experience who can move beyond individual component design and help integrate an entire aircraft/system. They should have deep experience in airframe structures, metallic/composite design, CATIA/3DX, structural analysis, and cross-functional engineering, with additional value from MRB, GD&T, supplier interaction, and advanced aerospace program experience.
