Cloud Migration Lead

MERITUS are recruiting for a Cloud Migration Lead to join one of our clients on an initial contract basis. This is a hands on technical leadership role focused on delivering a large scale datacentre exit programme, migrating critical production environments from on premises infrastructure into AWS.

About the Role

Our client is undertaking a business critical cloud transformation programme to migrate multiple production environments from legacy UK datacentres into AWS before a fixed December 2026 deadline.

This is not a project management role. They require a senior technical leader who can take ownership of the migration strategy, provide architectural direction, enhance existing automation and ensure successful production cutovers across several parallel migration workstreams.

You'll work alongside established engineering teams, removing technical blockers and making key architectural decisions to ensure migrations are delivered safely and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the end to end technical delivery of large scale datacentre to AWS migrations.
• Review, improve and extend existing migration automation using Infrastructure as Code.
• Provide technical leadership across multiple application migration teams.
• Define migration sequencing, architecture and deployment strategy.
• Identify and resolve infrastructure, networking, licensing and application compatibility issues.
• Own production cutover planning, execution and rollback strategies.
• Work closely with engineering teams to ensure consistent technical standards.
• Communicate technical risks, progress and key decisions to senior stakeholders.
• Ensure production migrations are completed with minimal customer impact.

Required Experience

• Extensive experience delivering enterprise scale datacentre to cloud migrations.
• Strong AWS infrastructure and migration expertise.
• Solid understanding of VMware and traditional datacentre environments.
• Experience working with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
• Strong knowledge of production infrastructure, networking, DNS, security and access management.
• Experience leading technical delivery across multiple engineering teams.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex migration challenges under tight delivery deadlines.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Desirable Experience

• Experience delivering large scale cloud transformation programmes.
• Knowledge of highly available production environments.
• Experience working within regulated or enterprise software organisations.
