We are seeking a skilled MIG (GMAW) Welder/Fabricator to join a growing team in Merriam, KS. This role supports heavy fabrication/structural work and requires consistent, high-quality welds on carbon steel across a wide range of thicknesses. Must-Haves MIG Welder/Fabricator

  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG) experience
  • Experience welding carbon steel from 3/16” to 1” thick
  • Strong fabrication skills and ability to work independently
  • Comfortable with overhead crane operation (material handling)
  • Experience with drilling and grinding
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret welding symbols/specs
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Key Responsibilities MIG Welder/Fabricator

  • Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on carbon steel (approximately 3/16”–1” thick)
  • (Preferred when applicable) Perform spray transfer MIG welding, including work on 1/2”+ plate
  • Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and specifications
  • Set up welding equipment and adjust parameters (voltage, wire speed, gas flow) for optimal results (including spray transfer settings when used)
  • Complete fit-up and tack welding prior to final welding operations
  • Ensure strong penetration and fusion to meet structural integrity standards
  • Perform drilling, grinding, and finishing for smooth, defect-free welds
  • Inspect welds for quality and compliance; repair/rework as needed
  • Operate an overhead crane safely to move material
  • Follow company safety policies and OSHA guidelines

Qualifications & Skills MIG Welder/Fabricator

  • 2+ years MIG welding experience (spray transfer preferred)
  • Proficient with common shop tools including grinders, torches, and measuring tools
  • Must be able to pass a welding test (spray transfer on 1/2”+ steel may be part of the test)
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a physically demanding shop environment

Preferred Experience MIG Welder/Fabricator

  • Spray transfer welding
  • Plasma cutting
  • Familiarity with welding code expectations (AWS D1.1 preferred)
  • Heavy fabrication / structural steel / industrial manufacturing background
  • Experience welding in out-of-position setups

Position Details MIG Welder/Fabricator

  • Contract-to-hire: 3–4 months
  • Pay: Around $22+/hour while on contract 
  • Location: Merriam, KS
