Apply direct A professional services organization is seeking an Accounting Technician to support a diverse portfolio of clients with accounting, tax compliance, and financial reporting needs.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who can manage client files independently, work across multiple deadlines, and deliver accurate, high-quality work with minimal supervision. You’ll work closely with experienced accounting professionals while building your technical knowledge and client-service skills.
What You’ll Do
- Perform bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and general accounting tasks as required
- Prepare working paper files and financial information for compilation engagements
- Prepare corporate and personal income tax returns and related filings
- Prepare indirect tax, payroll, and information returns as required
- Communicate with clients to obtain information and respond to routine inquiries
- Correspond with government tax authorities regarding client matters
- Manage multiple client files and competing deadlines
- Provide regular updates to managers on file progress and outstanding items
- Identify issues, gather relevant information, and escalate matters when appropriate
- Monitor workload and communicate changes or budget considerations to management
- Maintain accurate time and file records
- Follow established accounting, tax, documentation, and quality-control procedures
- Stay current with relevant technical requirements and apply them accurately
- Support additional accounting and tax projects as needed
What You Bring
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- 2+ years of relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience, ideally within a public accounting environment
- Working knowledge of Canadian personal and corporate tax compliance
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting and document-management systems
- Experience preparing working papers, reconciliations, and tax-related filings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a client-focused approach
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and follow-through
- Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines, particularly during busy periods
- Comfortable working independently while knowing when to seek guidance
- Experience with accounting, tax preparation, or practice-management software is an asset
