About the role:
An opportunity exists for an experienced Systems Administrator Engineer to join a major communications and infrastructure environment as a Level 3 Radio Systems & Infrastructure Engineer. This is an SME-level engineering position supporting a key Tier 1 Mining customer account, providing high-level technical support across critical radio systems, servers, network infrastructure and associated services.
  
While the role sits within a radio systems environment, the primary focus is server and systems administration, IP networking and services management, rather than traditional RF engineering. A strong understanding of how radio, transmission, servers and network infrastructure operate together as a complete system will be highly valued.
  
This is a strong opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of telecommunications, IT infrastructure and mission-critical systems.
  • Brisbane-based position
  • Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
  • Permanent full-time or long-term contract options available
    • Contract: $715/day incl. super = rough $172k annual package based on 48 working weeks
    • Permanent: $130k–$140k + super, depending on skill and experience
What you’ll be doing:
  • Provide Level 3 technical support across radio systems, servers, network infrastructure and associated services
  • Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex operational and system issues
  • Manage and support server infrastructure, system administration and associated applications
  • Configure, maintain and troubleshoot IP networks, LAN/WAN infrastructure, routers and switches
  • Support the ongoing operation and maintenance of multi-site communications systems
  • Investigate complex technical issues, identify root causes and implement effective resolutions
  • Support planned maintenance, system upgrades, integration and testing activities
  • Work across radio and transmission infrastructure to understand and support the complete communications system
  • Ensure system installations and configurations align with technical documentation and quality standards
  • Produce and maintain technical and as-built documentation where required
  • Work closely with operations, field engineering, project teams, customers and vendors
  • Provide technical advice and support to operational teams and field engineers
  • Assist with network testing, integration and certification activities
  • Develop and maintain technical procedures, work instructions and support documentation
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineering and technical staff
  • Travel to customer sites as required to support business and customer requirements
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call roster for urgent system issues
What you’ll need to be successful in the role:
  • Full Australian working rights – this role offers no relocation assistance or Visa sponsorship
  • Strong server and systems administration experience
  • Strong IP networking experience, including LAN/WAN, routers and switches
  • Experience supporting and maintaining Windows Server environments
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and server hardware/software maintenance
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure, troubleshooting and fault finding
  • Experience working in a Level 3 engineering, technical support or SME environment
  • Experience supporting complex, multi-site communications or network systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify root causes
  • Strong understanding of how servers, networks, radio and transmission infrastructure integrate as a complete system
Highly desirable:
  • Radio systems, telecommunications or transmission experience
  • Experience with Motorola Dimetra, MOTOTRBO or Astro P25 systems
  • Microwave/MUX distribution experience
  • Cisco or Juniper experience + certifications
  • Network security experience including firewalls, intrusion detection or antivirus systems
