We are seeking an experienced and driven Medical Team Lead to join a high-performing early phase clinical research environment. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of medical services, ensuring excellence in patient care, and guiding a team of medical professionals in a fast-paced, research-led setting.


Reporting to the Medical Director, you will act as the primary point of leadership for the medical team, ensuring strong operational performance, effective workforce management, and high-quality clinical trial execution.


The Opportunity

 
In this position, you will combine hands-on clinical involvement with team leadership and operational oversight. You will play an integral role in supporting clinical trials, from patient screening through to study conduct, while fostering a culture of quality, safety and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of medical staff, including physicians at varying levels
  • Ensure appropriate workforce planning, rostering and coverage across clinical activities
  • Promote a collaborative, accountable and high-performance team culture
  • Support professional development through coaching, mentoring and training initiatives
Clinical Trials Oversight
  • Provide medical leadership across multiple clinical studies, ensuring adherence to protocols, regulations and best practice
  • Contribute to protocol review, study feasibility and trial design discussions
  • Oversee participant screening, eligibility assessment and enrolment processes
  • Monitor trial progress, ensuring timelines and quality standards are consistently met
Clinical & Medical Responsibilities
  • Maintain oversight of participant safety, wellbeing and clinical care throughout all trials
  • Review and approve clinical assessments, reports, adverse events and study documentation
  • Provide expert medical guidance to cross-functional project teams
  • Support compliance with ICH-GCP, regulatory requirements and internal SOPs
Principal Investigator Duties (as required)
  • Act as Principal Investigator or Sub-Investigator for assigned trials
  • Take responsibility for study conduct, participant safety and data integrity
  • Ensure accurate, timely and complete documentation across all trials
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, sponsors, external investigators and regulators
  • Support audits, sponsor visits and regulatory inspections
  • Contribute medical expertise to project start-up, feasibility and proposal development
Operational & Quality Excellence
  • Partner with clinical operations and project teams to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Identify risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across medical services
  • Ensure high standards of compliance, safety and reporting
About You 
 
You are a confident clinical leader with a passion for research and patient safety. You thrive in a dynamic environment and bring a balance of strong clinical expertise, operational insight and people leadership.

Essential Requirements

  • Medical degree with current AHPRA registration
  • Proven leadership experience within healthcare, ideally in a hospital or clinical research setting
  • Significant experience in clinical trials (Principal or Sub-Investigator level)
  • Strong knowledge of ICH-GCP and clinical trial regulations
