The Material Planner is responsible for ensuring the timely availability of raw materials, components, and packaging supplies required to support production and customer demand. This role works closely with Procurement, Production Planning, Operations, Suppliers, and Logistics teams to maintain optimal inventory levels, minimize shortages, and support on-time delivery performance.
Responsibilities
Material Planning & Inventory Management
- Develop and maintain material requirements plans based on production schedules, forecasts, and customer demand.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate supply of materials while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
- Analyze material consumption trends and recommend inventory optimization strategies.
- Review and manage safety stock levels, reorder points, and inventory parameters.
Supply Coordination
- Coordinate with Procurement and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Track supplier performance and proactively address potential shortages or delivery risks.
- Expedite critical materials when necessary to support production requirements.
- Communicate material availability issues and recommend mitigation plans.
Production Support
- Collaborate with Production Planning and Operations teams to align material availability with production schedules.
- Monitor material shortages and resolve supply issues that may impact manufacturing operations.
- Ensure accurate material master data and planning parameters within ERP/MRP systems.
Reporting & Analysis
- Generate and analyze reports related to inventory levels, shortages, supplier performance, and planning metrics.
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve material flow and planning effectiveness.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on inventory reduction, service level improvements, and supply chain optimization.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, Logistics, and Finance teams to support business objectives.
- Participate in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and demand review processes as required.
- Support new product introductions, engineering changes, and phase-in/phase-out activities.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma required
- 2+ years of experience in material planning, inventory management, production planning, supply chain, or related functions.
Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools.
- Understanding of MRP, inventory management, and supply chain planning principles.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Preference:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment preferred.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, JDE, or similar systems.
