Junior Project Engineer – Balance Machine Package
We are seeking a motivated and driven Junior Project Engineer to support the delivery of a major Balance Machine package within a brownfield mining environment. Working closely with the Package Lead and Project Engineering team, you will play a key role in coordinating engineering, procurement, construction, and shutdown activities to ensure successful project outcomes.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career Project Engineer, with at least 3 years of experience, looking to further develop their experience on a complex materials handling project while gaining exposure to large-scale shutdown execution and brownfield project delivery.

Working closely with the Package Lead and Project Engineering team, you will play a key role in coordinating engineering, procurement, construction, and shutdown activities to ensure successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
- Supporting Project Engineers in the delivery of the Balance Machine package across engineering, construction, and shutdown phases
- Managing and tracking project deliverables, including shop detailing, RFIs, and TQs, ensuring timely close-out
- Monitoring project and shutdown schedules and ensuring alignment with key milestones
- Assisting with stakeholder engagement and interfaces to support integrated package delivery
- Supporting procurement activities, contract administration, variation assessments, and progress claim reviews
- Contributing to project reporting, governance requirements, and performance tracking
- Coordinating materials, subcontractors, and suppliers to support efficient project execution
- Assisting with site coordination activities during construction and shutdown periods
- Preparing and maintaining project documentation, reports, registers, and records
- Supporting project scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and progress monitoring activities
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a Project Engineer role, preferably within brownfield mining or industrial environments
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities
- Proven problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to project delivery
- Experience supporting projects through engineering, procurement, and construction phases
- Experience coordinating suppliers, subcontractors, and material deliveries
- Exposure to project scheduling, budget tracking, cost control, and progress reporting
- Strong document control and project reporting experience
- Willingness to work in a team environment
- Experience working on Balance Machine or materials handling projects
- Exposure to shutdown execution, brownfield tie-ins, and live plant environments
- Familiarity with Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) project systems, documentation, reporting requirements, and governance processes
- Opportunity to contribute to a significant mining infrastructure project

- Perth-based role with ad-hoc site travel requirements
