Principal Zoologist

My client is a global consultancy with a well established environmental practice in Perth, working across mining and resources, infrastructure, renewables and government. They're looking for a Senior or Principal  Zoologist to join a close-knit ecology team delivering a broad mix of fauna scopes across Western Australia.
 
This is a team that takes the quality of its work seriously. They've built strong relationships with clients and industry leaders on the back of evidence-based, scientifically robust results, and there's real investment in training, professional development and sponsorship to keep the team aligned with best practice.
 
Recent work includes:
 

• Large scale, multi-faceted targeted camera trapping programmes across multiple WA regions
• Long term monitoring, including bird and bat utilisation studies tied to wind farm impact assessments
• Targeted surveys in the South West
• Large scale, long term black cockatoo habitat assessments, with the ecology team involved from the planning stage to inform design decisions

 
The role
 

• Leading and delivering targeted and baseline fauna surveys across a range of WA bioregions
• Designing survey programmes that meet project requirements and regulatory expectations
• Supporting impact assessments, compliance monitoring and approvals across the project lifecycle
• Writing clear technical reports and contributing to approvals documentation
• Engaging with regulators and helping guide project delivery
• Mentoring junior team members in the field and in the office

  
What you'll need
 

• Around 8 - 15 years' experience as a zoologist. A mix of backgrounds is welcome
• Experience leading and managing fauna surveys, from planning through to execution
• Strong knowledge of Western Australian environments and regulations
• Previous environmental consultancy experience
• The ability to work across a broad range of fauna taxa rather than specialising in one area 
• Availability for roughly 90 days of travel or fieldwork a year

 
Experience across WA bioregions is highly regarded, particularly the Kimberley, Pilbara, South West and Great Western Woodlands.
