Join one of Canterbury’s leading marine and industrial engineering companies in a specialist role working across industrial boiler combustion and control systems throughout New Zealand.

Lyttelton Engineering designs, manufactures, installs and services a broad range of industrial plant, including steam and hot water boilers, pressure vessels, piping systems, heat exchangers and associated equipment. Their boiler capability covers a range of fuels and applications, with installations throughout New Zealand.

Based from their Lyttelton operation, this is a hands-on technical role providing specialist support across commissioning, servicing, fault-finding, combustion tuning and upgrades.

The Role

Working directly with industrial and marine customers, you'll be involved in:

  • Fault-finding and repair of boiler combustion and control systems
  • Combustion tuning of gas, diesel and solid-fuel fired boilers
  • Commissioning new and upgraded boiler plant
  • Testing systems and setting initial control parameters
  • Assessing existing installations and recommending combustion and controls upgrades
  • Supporting unattended boiler control system testing and commissioning
  • Completing boiler servicing and technical reports
  • Assisting with annual boiler surveys
  • Working alongside mechanical engineers, fabrication and servicing teams
  • Liaising directly with customers, contractors and equipment suppliers
  • Providing technical support to the wider boiler servicing team

This is a genuine field-service role. Regular travel throughout New Zealand, including overnight stays, is an important part of the position, and you'll also participate in the on-call roster, responding to breakdowns and urgent customer requirements when needed.

About You

We're interested in experienced technicians from an industrial boiler, burner, combustion, gas or related service and commissioning background.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Experience servicing, commissioning and fault-finding industrial boilers and burners
  • Good knowledge of industrial combustion systems
  • Experience with gas and/or diesel burners and associated controls
  • A mechanical, electrical or gas-fitting trade background
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • A methodical approach to fault-finding and commissioning
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Good technical reporting and customer communication skills
  • A full NZ driver's licence
  • Flexibility for regular travel, overnight stays and on-call work

A gas-fitting registration or relevant industrial gas experience would be particularly useful. However, you don't necessarily need to cover every aspect of the role from day one. Training and further development can be provided to the right person.

What's on Offer

  • Guaranteed minimum 40-hour week
  • Overtime available at time-and-a-half and double time
  • Ongoing technical training and development
  • Company vehicle
  • Mobile phone and laptop
  • Five weeks' annual leave after five years
  • Relocation assistance
  • Varied work across industrial and marine sites throughout New Zealand

Lyttelton Engineering offers the opportunity to work within an experienced, practical engineering team where you'll be exposed to everything from planned servicing and upgrades through to complex fault-finding, commissioning and breakdown work.

If you enjoy solving technical problems, getting out on site and working directly with customers, this is an opportunity to develop further as a specialist in industrial boiler combustion and controls.
