Maintenance Mechanic Full-Time | Ongoing Opportunity | Marine & Structural Maintenance

Foundation Labour Hire is currently seeking an experienced Maintenance Mechanic to join a busy marine structures operation. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically skilled tradesperson who enjoys hands-on maintenance, fault finding, repairs and working around marine infrastructure.

You will play a key role in keeping machinery, equipment and facilities operating safely and efficiently, with a strong focus on preventative maintenance, breakdown response and continuous improvement.

Working closely with the Maintenance Supervisor and broader maintenance team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a range of machinery and equipment used in pontoon, jetty and marine structure construction.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance on machinery, plant and equipment.
  • Inspect, clean, lubricate and adjust mechanical components to maintain optimal performance.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and identify the root cause of equipment failures.
  • Carry out mechanical repairs, component replacement and equipment servicing.
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergency maintenance requirements to minimise downtime.
  • Undertake basic welding, fabrication and machining as required.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Identify worn, damaged or defective components and recommend appropriate repairs.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports and parts usage documentation.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor to communicate equipment condition, faults and repair requirements.
  • Follow established marine industry procedures, workplace health and safety requirements and maintenance standards.
  • Identify and report potential hazards, equipment defects and safety issues.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Support and mentor junior maintenance personnel where required.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop and work environment.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are returned to their designated locations at the completion of each shift.
You will be a practical and mechanically minded tradesperson with strong fault-finding skills and the ability to work independently while contributing to a broader maintenance team.

Ideally, you will have:
  • Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, Mechanical Fitting or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance role, preferably within marine, construction, manufacturing, heavy industry or a similar environment.
  • Experience working with marine structures, pontoons, jetties or related equipment will be highly regarded.
  • Basic welding and fabrication capabilities.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of preventative and reactive maintenance practices.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Strong safety awareness and understanding of workplace safety procedures.
  • Ability to undertake physically demanding work and operate effectively in heat, rain and varied outdoor conditions.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • A proactive approach to identifying problems and finding practical solutions.
