Senior Mechanical Engineer

An opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading engineering consultancy supporting major resources and minerals processing projects. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will take a lead role in the delivery of studies, FEED and detailed design packages across a range of complex mining and infrastructure projects.

This is a Brisbane-based position offering flexible hybrid working arrangements and exposure to high-profile projects within the mining, minerals and metals sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering activities from concept development through to detailed design and project delivery.
• Prepare and review mechanical design calculations, specifications, datasheets and technical reports.
• Develop equipment specifications and procurement packages for major plant and infrastructure equipment.
• Coordinate package engineering activities and manage interactions with equipment vendors.
• Review equipment layouts, plant arrangements and integrated design solutions.
• Support HAZOPs, design reviews, constructability reviews and model reviews.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks while ensuring quality and compliance with industry standards.
• Provide technical input into procurement activities including bid evaluations and vendor documentation reviews.
• Track engineering progress against project schedules and budgets.
• Collaborate closely with process, piping, civil, structural, electrical and instrumentation teams.
• Mentor and support junior and developing engineers.

About You

• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering.
• Mandatory RPEQ registration.
• CPEng or equivalent professional registration highly regarded.
• 10+ years' experience in mechanical engineering within mining, minerals and metals projects.
• Proven experience delivering studies, FEED and detailed design phases within EPCM environments.
• Strong background in one or more of the following:
  • Mineral processing facilities
  • Hydrometallurgical or pyrometallurgical plants
  • Comminution and screening systems
  • Bulk materials handling and mobile equipment
  • Mining infrastructure and associated facilities
  • Water, wastewater, slurry and pipeline systems
  • Major equipment procurement and package engineering

Technical Expertise

• Mechanical equipment design and specification.
• Bulk materials handling systems.
• Pumps, tanks, pressure vessels and process equipment.
• Vendor management and procurement support.
• Equipment layout development and plant integration.
• Knowledge of Australian and international engineering codes and standards.
