This position is responsible for performing complex unclaimed property claims processing and investigative work. The role requires independent judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies related to property ownership. The Claims Specialist plays a critical role in fulfilling the agency's statutory responsibility to safeguard unclaimed property and ensure assets are distributed to their rightful owners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review, investigate, and process unclaimed property claims to determine rightful ownership.
- Conduct claimant interviews and follow-up investigations to gather and verify information.
- Research and analyze records, reports, and supporting documentation to locate and validate property ownership.
- Review and interpret legal documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, court documents, contracts, corporate resolutions, and probate records.
- Apply state, federal, and international regulations, as well as ownership laws across all 50 states, to determine claim eligibility.
- Communicate complex claim requirements and ownership determinations clearly and professionally to claimants and property holders.
- Exercise sound judgment and discretion when making claim determinations and approving claim payments.
- Manage a high-volume caseload while meeting statutory deadlines, quality standards, and agency performance goals.
- Independently gather information from multiple sources and utilize analytical and deductive reasoning to resolve complex claims.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Strong office, computer, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and word processing software.
- Comfortable learning and utilizing new technology and systems, including Google Workspace.
- Strong analytical, research, investigative, and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment:
Hybrid Schedule: Approximately 80% remote and 20% onsite, with onsite days determined by business needs and manager discretion.
