We're partnering with a growing industrial manufacturer seeking an experienced Weld & Machine Shop Supervisor to lead welding, machining, and fabrication operations within a fast-paced production environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for directing welders, machinists, CNC operators, and other shop personnel while keeping safety, quality, productivity, and delivery on track.

You'll work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Purchasing, and Operations to keep work flowing, resolve technical issues, develop employees, and continuously improve shop performance.

What You'll Own

Shop Leadership & Team Development

• Lead the daily activities of welders, machinists, CNC operators, and other production employees.

• Assign work based on production priorities, project requirements, employee capabilities, and available resources.

• Train, coach, and develop employees to improve technical skills, productivity, and workmanship.

• Address attendance, performance, and employee issues while maintaining accountability across the team.

• Promote cross-training between welding and machining functions to strengthen shop flexibility.

• Support welding qualifications, certifications, and ongoing technical development.

Welding, Machining & Fabrication

• Oversee welding, fabrication, CNC machining, and conventional machining operations.

• Ensure work is performed according to drawings, blueprints, specifications, tolerances, and established welding procedures.

• Provide technical guidance and troubleshoot welding, machining, and fabrication problems.

• Ensure proper operation of CNC machines, mills, lathes, saws, welding equipment, and related machinery.

• Monitor tooling, welding consumables, gases, and other materials needed to keep production running.

• Step in as a technical resource when complex shop-floor issues arise.

Quality & Inspection

• Maintain quality and workmanship standards across welding and machining operations.

• Verify finished components meet dimensional, tolerance, and specification requirements.

• Use appropriate precision measuring and inspection equipment to identify issues.

• Support weld inspection, testing, and qualification activities as required.

• Maintain compliance with applicable AWS, ASME, welding procedures, and customer requirements.

• Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to quality issues or nonconforming material.

Safety & Shop Standards

• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the manufacturing floor.

• Enforce company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable industry standards.

• Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, audits, and employee training.

• Ensure employees properly use PPE and follow safe operating procedures.

• Maintain safe work practices around welding equipment, CNC machinery, material handling, and other shop equipment.

Production & Continuous Improvement

• Coordinate daily shop activities to support production schedules and delivery commitments.

• Monitor workflow, labor utilization, productivity, and overall production output.

• Identify opportunities to improve throughput, reduce cycle time, eliminate waste, and improve quality.

• Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and other continuous-improvement initiatives.

• Assist with workforce planning and staffing as production requirements change.

• Coordinate preventative maintenance and equipment repairs with Maintenance.

Cross-Functional Coordination

• Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, Maintenance, Purchasing, and Operations.

• Participate in production planning meetings and communicate priorities clearly to shop personnel.

• Help resolve technical problems, production constraints, and scheduling challenges.

• Provide leadership with visibility into shop performance, production issues, and resource needs.

• Support internal, customer, and third-party audits or inspections when required.

• Track and communicate performance related to safety, quality, productivity, and delivery.

What We're Looking For

5+ years of experience in welding, machining, fabrication, or a closely related manufacturing environment

3–5 years of supervisory or leadership experience overseeing manufacturing or fabrication personnel

Strong working knowledge of welding processes, machining operations, CNC equipment, fabrication practices, and general manufacturing processes

Experience leading welders, machinists, CNC operators, or similar skilled-trade teams

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, welding specifications, and GD&T

Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment

Strong understanding of manufacturing safety and quality requirements

Knowledge of AWS, ASME, and related welding/manufacturing standards strongly preferred

Welding certifications or equivalent technical qualifications are highly desirable

Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling preferred

Strong leadership, communication, organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

A technical degree in Welding Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based on an active heavy manufacturing and metal-fabrication production floor. The environment may include elevated noise, dust, metal particles, welding operations, machining equipment, and other typical industrial conditions.

Regular time on the production floor is required. Employees must wear appropriate PPE and may spend extended periods standing or walking, with occasional climbing, bending, kneeling, stooping, and lifting or moving materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
