As the People Business Partner for Japan, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the People agenda and supporting growth strategies across the country.
About the Role
Reporting into regional leadership, the People Business Partner, Japan will serve as the key HR leader for the Japan business, providing strategic and operational HR support. The role involves partnering closely with local and regional stakeholders to lead initiatives in organizational development, talent management, and HR governance. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong business acumen, people leadership, and a deep understanding of the local regulatory landscape.
Responsibilities
HR Leadership
- Design and implement strategic People plans aligned with business growth objectives
- Develop the HR organizational structure to support multi-year growth plans
- Lead organizational design and change management initiatives
- Partner with global and regional teams to enhance onboarding processes
- Drive performance management culture and support employee relations matters
- Oversee People budget and contribute HR insights to operational planning
- Ensure timely execution of transitions and workforce changes
Business Partnering
- Serve as the HR Business Partner for both client and non-client facing teams in Japan
- Support local recruitment activities as needed
Talent Acquisition
- Partner with the local Talent Acquisition Lead to customize hiring strategies
- Support recruitment efforts to attract and retain top talent
Learning and Development
- Co-develop and roll out learning initiatives including leadership, soft skills, and technical training
- Drive talent management efforts including succession planning and development programs
- Collaborate on programs addressing compliance training and workplace productivity
Governance
- Enhance HR governance strategy in response to labor market, regulatory, and union-related changes
- Interpret and implement policies to ensure local compliance
Data Management
- Leverage HR systems and data analytics to support business decisions
- Monitor and audit data to ensure accuracy and compliance
Requirements
Professional Experience & Skills
- Minimum 10 years of broad HR experience, including at least 7 years in a leadership role
- Strong business acumen and the ability to align HR strategy with business needs
- Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, labor law, C&B, L&D, and data analytics
- Effective communicator with strong presentation and stakeholder management skills
- Proven experience working in global organizations with matrix structures
- High level of resilience, adaptability, and organizational skills
- Data-driven mindset with analytical and quantitative capabilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR systems (e.g., PeopleSoft preferred)
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field
- HR certifications (e.g., PHR/SPHR) preferred
Language & Communication
- Fluent Japanese; strong English skills to communicate with regional teams
- Ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively
- Skilled in motivating and influencing across all levels
