SQL Server Migration Specialist

Overview
Client is seeking an experienced SQL Server Migration Specialist to lead a hands-on migration from SQL Server 2016 to SQL Server 2022. This role will focus on SSRS report migration, SSIS package migration and modernization, Azure Data Factory integration, database validation, scripting, and post-migration support.
Core Responsibilities

• Lead the migration of SQL Server 2016 database components to SQL Server 2022.
• Execute full migration of SSRS reports, including testing, validation, and issue resolution.
• Migrate, optimize, and validate SSIS packages on the SQL Server 2022 platform.
• Assess, redesign, and migrate SSIS packages to Azure Data Factory for cloud-based data integration.
• Develop, test, and maintain custom scripts and utilities using VB.NET or C#.NET.
• Write, troubleshoot, and optimize complex T-SQL and PL/SQL queries and stored procedures.
• Conduct comprehensive testing and validation of migrated components to ensure data integrity and system functionality.
• Document migration processes, configurations, testing results, and lessons learned.
• Work independently across multiple migration workstreams while maintaining regular stakeholder communication.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Technologies

• Minimum five years of professional experience with SQL Server administration, development, or migration projects.
• Demonstrated expertise with SQL Server 2016 and SQL Server 2022 environments.
• Hands-on experience migrating SSRS reports in production environments.
• Hands-on experience migrating SSIS packages in production environments.
• Proven experience with Azure Data Factory and cloud-based data integration.
• Strong proficiency with T-SQL and PL/SQL query development and optimization.
• Solid programming skills in VB.NET or C#.NET.
• Experience with database migration planning, execution, testing, and validation methodologies.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple migration workstreams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills or Experience

• Experience with SQL Server 2019 or other intermediate SQL Server versions.
• Familiarity with Azure SQL Database or other Azure data services.
• Knowledge of data warehousing or business intelligence platforms.
• Experience with SQL Server Migration Assistant or third-party migration utilities.
• SQL Server or Azure certifications.

Work Details

• Burlington, NC role.
• Onsite four days per week and remote one day per week.
• Six-month project duration.
• Two-step interview process.
• Candidates are expected to demonstrate their own knowledge and expertise during interviews without AI assistance.
