Staffing Agency, a national recruitment company, is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic / WOF Mechanic in Cambridge to join a well-established New Zealand-owned automotive service business with more than 45 years of industry experience and over 40 service locations across New Zealand.

You will play an important role in keeping customers and their families safe on the road through WOF inspections, servicing, diagnostics, and mechanical repairs.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is ideal for a qualified WOF Inspector and experienced Automotive Technician who enjoys a hands-on and varied mechanical position.
You will be responsible for completing Warrant of Fitness inspections as well as general servicing, diagnostics, mechanical repairs, and workshop duties. You will work across a broad range of vehicles and use your technical knowledge to identify faults, recommend repairs, and ensure vehicles meet required safety and roadworthiness standards.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct Warrant of Fitness inspections in accordance with NZTA requirements and inspection standards
- Inspect vehicles for safety, roadworthiness, and compliance
- Identify and accurately document vehicle defects and determine WOF outcomes
- Carry out general vehicle servicing and preventative maintenance
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment
- Perform engine management and diagnostic work, including fault-code identification
- Carry out brake inspections, servicing, repairs, and component replacements
- Inspect and repair suspension and shock absorber systems
- Carry out exhaust system and muffler repairs
- Inspect and replace batteries and tyres when required
- Perform general mechanical repairs and replace worn or damaged components
- Work across a range of cars, 4x4s, utes, vans, EVs, hybrids, and European vehicles
- Complete inspections and repairs efficiently while maintaining high workmanship standards
- Clearly communicate faults, repair requirements, and recommendations to customers and the workshop team
- Maintain accurate service, inspection, and repair records
- Follow all workshop health, safety, and environmental procedures
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
- Qualified and experienced Automotive Mechanic / Automotive Technician
- Current NZ WOF Inspector authority or qualification
- Previous experience conducting WOF inspections
- Strong understanding of vehicle mechanical systems and safety requirements
- Proven experience with vehicle diagnostics and fault-finding
- Experience with brakes, suspension, exhaust systems, tyres, and general vehicle servicing
- Confidence working across a variety of vehicle makes and models
- Experience with EVs, hybrids, European vehicles, or 4x4s would be advantageous
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Reliable, professional, and safety-conscious approach
