A leading Tier 2 Melbourne construction business is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join its project delivery team, with a strong focus on multi-residential apartment projects.
This is an opportunity for a construction-focused Design Manager who understands the complexities of delivering apartment developments from design development and documentation through procurement and construction.
Working closely with Head of Design, Construction Managers, consultants and subcontractors, you will take ownership of the design management process across major apartment projects.
You will be responsible from ECI, ensuring design is coordinated, buildable, commercially aligned and delivered to programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design management across apartment and multi-residential projects
- Manage architects, engineers, consultants and specialist subcontractors
- Drive design coordination, documentation and constructability reviews
- Identify and resolve design, technical and coordination issues
- Manage design programmes, deliverables and approvals
- Work closely with construction teams to ensure design intent translates into efficient site delivery
- Support procurement, tendering and value management activities
- Review design changes and assess cost, programme and construction implications
- Coordinate authority requirements, consultant approvals and project interfaces
- Maintain strong communication between the design, commercial and construction teams
- Contribute to buildability, quality and risk management throughout the project lifecycle
You will be an experienced Design Manager from a construction background, ideally with a proven track record delivering apartment or multi-residential projects.
Candidates at Design Coordinator level may be considered.
You will bring:
- Strong construction-side design management experience
- Demonstrated apartment / multi-residential project experience
- Excellent knowledge of construction documentation and coordination
- Strong understanding of buildability, procurement and construction methodology
- The ability to manage multiple consultants and competing priorities
- Commercial awareness and confidence working with project budgets and programmes
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to design management
- The ability to work collaboratively with senior project and construction leadership
