About the role
Step into a dynamic Emergency Department accredited by ACEM for 24 months of training, offering a well‑structured teaching programme with protected sessions. You'll supervise 4th and 6th‑year medical students from the University of Auckland and work within a service that strongly supports professional development through funded CME, internal teaching, and regular peer review.
 
As a Tier 2 ED in an adventure‑rich region, you'll manage high trauma volumes and work closely within the Midland Regional Trauma System, backed by 24/7 in‑house trauma capability. Acute services are onsite, with specialist transfers to Waikato Hospital when required.

About the hospital
This hospital delivers a full range of acute services and boasts a 34‑bed Emergency Department with dedicated paediatric areas, resuscitation bays, acute monitoring spaces, procedure rooms, and family support rooms.
The ED team includes 12 Emergency Physicians, 3 Clinical Nurse Specialists, and a broad RMO cohort. With around 38,000 presentations a year (including a strong paediatric component), theservice is well‑resourced with 24/7 access to Radiology, Laboratory, and Blood Bank services.

Eligibility
You'll bring broad, adaptable Emergency Medicine expertise and the ability to manage patients from presentation through to discharge, or stabilisation and transfer for tertiary care.
You should be:
  • Eligible for Specialist Vocational Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
