CAD Designer IV (2D/3D Design)

Our client is seeking an experienced CAD Designer IV to join their engineering team on a 12-month contract based in San Diego, California.

The successful candidate will support engineering design activities by producing detailed engineering drawings, creating and updating 2D and 3D CAD models, and preparing design documentation for utility infrastructure projects. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering drafting principles, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to interpret customer requirements, technical specifications, engineering drawings, and supplier documentation.

Responsibilities

• Create and update sketches, working drawings, and contract documents using CAD software.
• Produce accurate 2D and 3D engineering models.
• Interpret customer requirements, engineering specifications, supplier documentation, and technical data sheets.
• Prepare documentation supporting engineering design packages.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with engineers and project teams to ensure design accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
• Maintain drafting standards and quality throughout project execution.
• Revise drawings and models based on engineering review comments and project changes.
• Support engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of professional CAD drafting/design experience.
• Advanced experience producing both 2D and 3D CAD models.
• Strong understanding of engineering drafting standards and documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and technical data sheets.
• Experience preparing documentation supporting engineering design packages.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently within project deadlines.

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience supporting utility, energy, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
• Experience working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Familiarity with engineering design processes and contract documentation.
