About the Company

This organisation is an established Australian engineering consultancy with a sizeable national team, delivering specialised electrical, power systems and automation solutions across industries including mining, utilities, infrastructure, water and manufacturing.

They are recognised for partnering closely with clients to deliver practical, fit-for-purpose engineering solutions that improve system reliability, safety and operational performance in complex industrial environments.

Engineers within the business are exposed to the full project lifecycle, from early-stage studies and design through to onsite commissioning and support. The company promotes a hands-on, technically focused environment where individuals are given ownership of their work and the opportunity to develop across a broad range of projects and industries.

About the Role

This is an opportunity for a power systems engineer to step into a consulting environment where you will be directly involved in solving real-world electrical challenges across industrial and infrastructure projects.

You will play a hands-on role delivering power system studies, analysis and design work, with exposure to a wide variety of systems and operating environments. The position offers the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, from initial modelling and design through to testing, commissioning and ongoing system support.

Working within a team of experienced engineers, you will be supported in developing your technical capability while also being given ownership of your own workstreams and client deliverables. The role provides a balance of office-based engineering and site-based exposure, making it well suited to engineers looking to build both depth and breadth in their power systems career.

Role Responsibilities

  • Perform power system modelling and analysis including load flow, fault level, motor starting and arc flash studies
  • Develop and maintain models using tools such as ETAP or SKM PTW
  • Undertake protection coordination studies including overcurrent and earth fault protection
  • Contribute to the design of HV and MV power systems including single line diagrams and protection interfaces
  • Support earthing and lightning protection design in line with relevant standards
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations and engineering documentation
  • Review vendor designs and technical submissions for compliance
  • Participate in design reviews and technical discussions
  • Support factory acceptance testing and site-based commissioning activities
  • Assist with troubleshooting of power system and protection issues during project delivery
  • Collaborate with electrical, automation and project teams to meet project requirements

Selection Criteria
To be considered, you must demonstrate:
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in power systems engineering within an industrial, utilities or consulting environment
  • Proven experience performing power system studies such as load flow, fault level and arc flash analysis
  • Hands-on use of power system modelling software such as ETAP, SKM PTW or equivalent
  • Practical understanding of protection systems and coordination, including overcurrent and earth fault protection
  • Experience working with HV or MV electrical systems in an operational or project delivery context
  • Ability to prepare accurate technical reports, calculations and engineering documentation suitable for client review
  • Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and their application in design and analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to project delivery, including working to scope, deadlines and quality requirements
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams

Desirable

  • Experience within an engineering consultancy environment
  • Exposure to mining, utilities or heavy industrial projects
  • Experience in protection coordination and relay schemes
  • Knowledge of earthing and lightning protection design
  • Involvement in commissioning, FAT or SAT activities
  • Progression toward or interest in professional certification such as RPEQ
