Estimator – High-Profile Commercial Skylight Project & Installation

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze project documents: Review architectural plans, structural drawings, contract specifications, general and special conditions, and instructions to bidders.
  • Perform material take-offs: Calculate requirements for extrusions, glass, flashing, buy-outs, and other skylight-related materials.
  • Estimate project costs: Quantify labor required for engineering, fabrication, and installation.
  • Support sales presentations: Create preliminary detail drawings and develop skylight models for upcoming pitches.
Requirements:
Education & Technical Training
  • Associate degree in a technical discipline (preferably architecture or engineering) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Specific, formal training in the costing of materials.
Technical Skills
  • Mathematics: Strong foundational understanding of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Drafting & Software: Above-average skills in computer drafting, specifically with AutoCAD.
  • System Familiarity: Experience with automated estimating programs (such as Super Sky's system) is a strong plus.
  • Core Aptitudes: High speed and precise accuracy in drafting and calculation tasks are essential.
Experience & Industry Knowledge
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in custom-architectural and/or construction products.
  • Prior experience working specifically with skylighting and aluminum/glass-oriented products is highly preferred.
  • A solid understanding of contract specifications and modern construction practices.
