Senior Electrical Engineer – Power Generation

Location: Dallas, TX
Employment Type: Permanent / Full-Time
Salary: $160,000–$190,000 base + performance-based bonus
Relocation: Assistance available

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to take ownership of the electrical scope across the full lifecycle of complex power generation projects, from conceptual design and FEED through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and energization.

Working on projects incorporating gas turbines, utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and other power generation technologies, you will provide technical leadership across electrical system design, power distribution, grid integration, equipment selection and project execution.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced power systems engineer to take an owner-side role with significant responsibility across the development and delivery of large-scale energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Conceptual Design & FEED

  • Develop preliminary single-line diagrams, electrical layouts and system architectures for power generation projects.

  • Define HV and MV power distribution strategies and network configurations.

  • Perform and review load flow, fault and short-circuit studies.

  • Assess transformers, switchgear, power conversion equipment and other major electrical systems.

  • Evaluate grid interconnection requirements and applicable electrical standards.

  • Assess reactive power, harmonics and system stability requirements.

  • Develop protection philosophies and preliminary relay strategies.

  • Prepare equipment specifications and procurement requirements for major electrical assets.

  • Support feasibility studies, CAPEX/OPEX estimates and technical evaluations.

  • Coordinate with mechanical, civil and controls engineering disciplines to develop fully integrated project solutions.

Detailed Design & EPC Execution

  • Coordinate and oversee the development of IFC electrical engineering deliverables by EPC contractors.

  • Review detailed single-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, cable schedules, grounding designs and electrical layouts.

  • Review protection coordination, arc flash and grounding studies.

  • Review and approve EPC engineering calculations, drawings and technical documentation.

  • Manage electrical design changes and assess potential technical, cost and schedule impacts.

  • Ensure designs comply with project specifications, utility requirements and applicable IEEE, IEC and NEC standards.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Prepare technical requisitions and bid evaluations for transformers, switchgear, MCCs, inverters, BESS and generator electrical packages.

  • Review vendor drawings, calculations and technical documentation.

  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs).

  • Resolve technical queries with equipment vendors and EPC contractors.

  • Support equipment procurement and expediting activities.

Construction & Commissioning

  • Provide electrical engineering support during construction and resolve field engineering issues and RFIs.

  • Conduct site inspections and technical reviews of electrical installations.

  • Verify installation of cabling, terminations, switchgear, transformers and grounding systems against approved designs.

  • Support QA/QC activities, punch-list management and mechanical completion walkdowns.

  • Develop and review commissioning plans, testing procedures and energization sequences.

  • Support Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), protection relay testing and functional testing.

  • Support system energization, grid synchronization and performance testing through project handover.

  • Review as-built documentation and support technical project closeout.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Ideally 10+ years of engineering experience within power systems, although candidates with 7+ years of highly relevant experience may be considered.

  • Strong experience within power generation, utility-scale renewable energy or industrial power systems.

  • Experience across multiple stages of the project lifecycle, including conceptual design, FEED, detailed engineering/EPC, construction and commissioning.

  • Strong understanding of HV/MV electrical system design, protection schemes and grid integration.

  • Experience with power system analysis software such as ETAP, PSCAD or equivalent.

  • Experience producing or reviewing single-line diagrams, protection schematics, cable schedules and grounding designs.

  • Knowledge of applicable IEEE, IEC and NEC requirements.

  • Working knowledge of construction, QA/QC, commissioning and testing of HV/MV electrical systems.

  • Ability to coordinate effectively with EPC contractors, equipment vendors and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Gas turbine power generation experience is highly desirable.

  • Utility-scale solar PV and/or BESS project experience.

  • Experience working within an owner/operator, IPP, power project developer or EPC organization.

  • Experience with FEED studies for power generation, microgrid or renewable energy projects.

  • Grid interconnection and power system studies experience.

  • Field experience during construction, commissioning and energization.

  • AutoCAD or similar electrical design software experience.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain one.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to take significant technical ownership across major power infrastructure projects while working closely with project leadership, EPC contractors, equipment suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The position offers a $160,000–$190,000 base salary, performance-based bonus opportunity, potential sign-on support and relocation assistance for candidates moving to the Dallas area.

If you have a strong background in power systems engineering, power generation, gas turbines, solar or BESS and want to work across the complete project lifecycle, we would like to hear from you.
