Archives Administrator - Records Officer
 
4-Month Contract | $51.95 per hour + Super | Bankstown Location
 
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Archives Administrator to join a large local government organisation based in Bankstown. This role will support the management, preservation and accessibility of Council records and archives, ensuring compliance with legislative and records management requirements.
 
About the Role
 
Reporting to the Team Leader Corporate Information Management, you will be responsible for facilitating the lifecycle management of Council records from active use through to archival storage and disposal. You will provide specialist advice on records management practices, support information retrieval requests, and contribute to the continuous improvement of archival processes and procedures.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the transfer, storage, retrieval and disposal of Council records and archives.
  • Appraise and sentence records in accordance with State Records NSW retention and disposal authorities.
  • Prepare records for ongoing storage, archiving or secure destruction.
  • Provide advice and guidance on records management best practice and legislative compliance.
  • Support information retrieval activities, including requests under GIPA legislation.
  • Conduct audits of records and archives to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitor off-site storage arrangements and service delivery against agreed standards.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of records management policies, procedures and standards.
  • Educate and support staff in their records management responsibilities.
  • Contribute to records and archives improvement projects and initiatives.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
  • Experience working within a Records and Archive Management environment.
  • Strong knowledge of records and archival management principles and practices.
  • Sound understanding of the State Records Act (NSW) and AS ISO 15489 Records Management standards.
  • Experience applying General Retention and Disposal Authorities, ideally GA39 and GA45.
  • Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Experience using records management systems, ideally SharePoint, RecordPoint or similar platforms.
Essential Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Management or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Current Class C Driver Licence.
Desirable
  • Qualifications in Records, Archives or Information Management.
  • Local Government experience.
  • Experience using SharePoint and RecordPoint.
